7. Problem solving

The National Company plans to introduce a new line of its battery-powered note-books and portable computers. The approach is an integrated marketing communications campaign that will incorporate public relations, direct mail, sales promotion, and advertising. The objectives are to: generate awareness of the new product with business audiences; position National as the technology leader in developing and manufacturing notebook/portable computers; increase National’s sales and market share.

Do some brainstorming. Can you think of any audience research that could be done before you plan the marketing communications program? What variety of techniques and activities could help accomplish National’s objectives?

Roanoke Island is an island near the coast of North Carolina, United States. It is best known for its historical significance as the site of Sir Walter Raleigh’s failed attempts to establish a permanent English settlement with his Roanoke Colony in the late 16th century. The fate of the final group of colonists has yet to be ascertained, leading to the continuing interest in what became known as the “Lost Colony” for over 400 years. In the 21st century, even as archaeologists, historians and scientists continue to work to resolve the mystery, visitors come to see the longestrunning outdoor theater production in America: “The Lost Colony.”
