Rule Information

In addition to the Virtuoso XL requirements, you must define which layers and vias are to be used for routing. This information is defined in a rules file. Additional information, such as equivalent layers, boundary layers, keepouts, and conductors, are optional.

You can create a rules file interactively with the Rules Editor and either save the rule information either to your technology file or to an ASCII file. When you save the rules to your technology file, the rules are by default used each time wire editing is enabled. When you save the rules to an ASCII file, the file will need to be loaded each time wire editing is enabled.

An ASCII rules file takes precedence over technology file rules . To override the rules saved in your technology file, use the Rules Editor to create an ASCII rules file and load the new file.
