Virtuoso XL Layout Editor User Guide

Wire Editing in the Virtuoso XL Layout Editor

Note: If you are routing multiple wires, all the rectangular vias of the via pattern are rotated.

Pseudo Vias

Pseudo vias are used in the case of two layers that are self-conducting. They are defined in your rules file and used internally by Virtuoso XL but never appear in the DFII database.

For information about defining pseudo vias in a rules file, refer to“Local Interconnects (Pseudo Vias)” in the Virtuoso Custom Placement and Routing Preparation Guide.

Stretching Paths and Vias

You can stretch path segments, and vias while maintaining the spacing and width rules for all paths and vias involved.

To stretch path segments, vias, and stretchable pcells follow, these steps:

1.Choose Edit – Stretch.

The layout window prompts you to select a figure to be stretched.

2.Click or area select the objects you want to stretch.

3.Move the cursor and click to place the objects.

The following options affect the stretch command.

Interactive Checking

When Interactive Checking is on, paths are prevented from creating violations.

Push Routing

When Push Routing is on, the stretched objects will push aside other paths and vias.

Push Components

When Push Component is on, the stretched objects will push aside components if there is insufficient space to stretch the objects.

When Allow Orthogonal Jogs and Push Routing are on, orthogonal jogs are created in paths that you are pushing.

Note: Press the Esc key to terminate the Stretch command. The path segments and vias you are stretching are returned to their original locations and are detached from the pointer.

Splitting and Stretching Paths

The Split command reshapes paths while maintaining spacing and width rules. The steps include cutting selected segments, using the right mouse button to cycle to the segments you want to stretch, and stretching the segments to the final position.

To split and stretch paths, follow these steps:

1.Choose Edit – Other – Split.

2.Select the paths you want to split. The Split form appears.

Note: Paths are the only objects supported by the Split command when wire editing is enabled.

3. Digitize the points of the split line.

The split line in the example above creates three separate sets of stretchable path segments.
