1. Theme #7. Blood groups genetics on ABO system

2. The aim: to form at students modern ideas of blood groups genetics on ABO system, system of Rhesus factor, knowledge need for practical doctors of genetics of ABO blood groups, Rhesus factor system.

3. The tasks:

3.1. History of the system of ABO blood groups discovery.

3.2. ABO antigenes.

3.3. Rhesus factor system.

3.4. Compatibility on blood groups and blood transfusion.

3.5. Connection of ABO blood groups system with diseases.

3.6. “Universal blood” creation on the basis of all blood types.

4. Performance form: presentation compiling.

5. Performance criteria:

а) selection and studying of the basic literary sources on the subject;

b) bibliography compiling;

c) information processing and systematization;

d) presentation plan designing;

e) presentation making up and design in “Microsoft Power Point” program;

f) statement at meeting of the students’ scientific circle “Biologist”.

Requirements to presentation making up:

а) a presentation should be made on the basis of “Microsoft Power Point” program;

b) the number of slides should be no more than 10-15;

c) a presentation should be done skillfully and be available to perception; the slides shouldn't be loaded by excessive text material;

d) the list of bibliography should be presented on the last slide.

6. Deadline: before the midterm control on the chapter “Fundamentals of general genetics”.

2. The aim: to study chromosomal and molecular-genetic bases of primary and secondary determination of human sex.

3. The tasks:

3.1. Types of chromosomal sex determination.

3.2. The role of Y chromosome and autosomal genes in primary sex determination.

3.3. Secondary sex determination.

3.4. Sex dependent and sex limited characters.

3.5. Gynandromorphs, intersexes, hermaphrodites and other sexual deviations, medical significance.

4. Performance form: abstract work.

5. Performance criteria:

а) studying and selection of recent literary sources;

b) information processing and systematization;

c) plan designing;

d) bibliography compiling;

e) abstract and/or project work making up.

The structure of abstract work:

1) the title page (made up in due form);

2) the table of contents (consecutive statement with indication of the main sections page numbers);

3) introduction (substantiation of the researched problem, its importance and urgency; determination of the aims and tasks of work);

4) the main part (each section should reveal evidentially a particular problem or one of its aspects, be logic continuation of the previous material; tables, schemes, diagrams, figures can be presented in this section or they can be executed as annex to abstract work);

5) conclusion (the results are summed up, the deductions are formulated and recommendations are suggested);

6) the list of bibliography (made up in due form).

Requirements to abstract work design:

а) the volume of abstract work should not exceed 10-15 printing pages (annexes are not included into a paper volume);

b) a text of abstract work should be carefully edited and grammatically verified;

c) references should be presented in numbers, corresponding to the number in the list of bibliography;

d) the list of bibliography should be at the end of a text according to order of appearance.
