  1. Control:

7.1. Evaluation of competence – knowledge

7.1.1. Interrogation on questions of the theme

7.1.2. Test control – 2 variants, 10 questions each

7.1.3. Drawing up schemes

7.1.4 Composition of bacterial ribosome (Mushkarbayev N.N., Kusnetsov S.L.Molecular Biology. M., 2003, p. 161, picture 3.10)

7.1.5. Structure of t-RNA molecule (Muminov T.A., Kuanndykov Y.U. Fundamentals of Molecular Biology (Course of Lectures). Almaty, 2007, p.56, picture 32)

      1. Problems solution (Medical Biology and Genetics. Study guide under redaction of Prof.Kuandykov Y.U. Almaty, 2004, p.39, ## 3, 4, 7)

      1. Protein insulin – 51stamino acid. Find: the quantity of nucleotides contained in the gene where protein insulin is programmed.

      1. 30 t-RNA molecules took part in the process of translation. Determine the number of amino acids in the composition of the synthetized protein, as well as the number of triplets and nucleotides in the gene coding such protein.

      1. T-RNA with anti-codons UUA, GGC, CGC, AAG, and CGU took part in biosynthesis of a polypeptide. Determined the nucleotide sequence of the sector of each chain of DNA molecule that carries information about such synthetizedpolypeptide and the number ofnucleotides containing A, G, T, and C in a two-chain DNA molecule.

      1. Indicate the order of location of amino acids in one of sectors of the protein molecule, if it is known that it is coded with such sequence of DNA nucleotides:

…GGT ACA CTC AAG GTA…

How the answer changes if the sixth nucleotide will be removed from the DNA molecule chemically?

Lessons 6-7

  1. Theme: Regulation of Gene Expression

  2. Object: Form students’ knowledge ofthe essence of gene expression, molecular mechanisms of gene activity regulation in prokaryotes.

  1. Educational Tasks:

  • to form students’ knowledge and understanding of the essence of gene expression;

  • to study molecular-genetic mechanisms of gene activity regulation;

  • to study peculiarities of regulation of prokaryotic genes.

  1. Principal Questions of the Theme:

4.1. Gene activity regulation, concept, essence, significance in the viability of organisms (cells).

4.2. Operon model of gene activity regulationin prokaryotes

4.3. Types of gene activity regulation (negative, positive, inducible, repressible)

  1. Methods of Teaching:interrogation aimed at clarification of students’ understanding of the essence, object, and objectives of the lesson; ability to briefly, clearly, logically recount and ability of draw the learnt material in the form of schemes, diagrams, drawings; testing with subsequent discussion of errors; work in group: explanation and demonstration of problem solution, filling-in schemes.
