Bus-Powered Devices
Bus powered devices may attach to either a fully rated port or to a bus-powered hub port that may supply only 100ma of maximum current. Depending on whether a USB device is a lowor high-powered and whether it attaches to a busor self-powered hub, the configuration may fail due to insufficient power.
Low-Power Devices
A low-power device consumes less than one unit load of power. The USB specification dictates that when power is first applied to a USB device, it must consume less than 100ma of current. Since low-power devices never consume more that 100ma, no special design considerations apply. Also, since the minimum current that a hub port can supply matches or exceeds the current requirements of low-power devices, no restrictions exist.
