The Structure of Split Transactions

Host software issues split transactions to perform lowand full-speed transactions to devices attached to high-speed hub ports (but not root hub ports). Split transactions are used only for communication between the host controller and high-speed hubs. The actual recipient of a split transaction is the transaction translator that is responsible for converting high-speed split transactions into lowor full-speed transactions as required by the attached devices.

Split transactions are performed using two transaction types: Start Split and Complete Split. The following examples illustrate two split transactions that are part of an isochronous transfers that require no verification of data delivery. A second set of examples illustrates split transactions that do require verification of data delivery, because they are part of either an interrupt, bulk, or control transfer.
