High-Speed Scheduling Can Include Other Transactions

Split transactions keep high-speed bandwidth from being taken by lowand full-speed devices that require relatively large blocks of time to transfer data. The high-speed hubs isolate these less efficient devices from the high-speed bus so that their slow transfers do not affect the high-speed bus bandwidth. Figure 17-16 illustrates that between the split transactions, system software can schedule other transactions to high-speed devices, thereby making the bus more efficient. Note that a split completion that includes a 187 byte data packet takes approximately 3.4% of the available bandwidth during a microframe.
