1. Буквосочетания ee, ea обычно читаются [ i:]: meet – встречать, treat – лечить, но

ea перед d, th, lth читается [e] : ready – готовый, dead – мертвый, wealth – богатство.

2. Буквосочетание oo читается [ u:] , а перед k – [u]: school – школа, look – смотреть.

3. Буквосочетание ou обычно читается [au]: about – о, около, round – вокруг, около

4. Буквосочетания au, aw читаются [o:]:daughter – дочь, autumn – осень, law –закон.

5. Буква о перед m, n, th, v обычно читается [٨]: some - некоторый, love – любить.

6. Буква а перед ss, sk, st, sp, nce, th, ft в британском варианте обычно читается [ a:]: last – прошлый, ask – просит, спрашивать, answer – отвечать.

7. Буквосочетание wa читается [wo:], если за ним следует одна или несколько согласных: wash – мыть, water – вода, watch – наручные часы, следить.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Dick Davidson. I was born in London but now I live in San Francisco, California. I am a news reporter and work for a small newspaper. The work is very interesting because I meet a lot of new people every day.

I come from a large family. My parents used [just] to be veterinarians in the Zoo of London, but now they have a small farm in the South of England. My father is very busy with the work on the farm (he is fond of apple trees) and my mother looks after the house. Every summer I try to see my parents and relatives. I have two sisters and a brother. The Cornfords live in Rugby, at 28 Coronation Street. It is an old Victorian mansion, very cosy inside.

John Cornford is a rich businessman of about 53. He is an owner of a software company and a specialist in IT. The competition in this field is very strict and Mr.Cornford often goes on business to China, the main market of his firm. So, he doesn’t see much of his family.

When the children were little, Sarah, John’s wife, used to be a housewife, very practical and full of common sense. But now, she is also engaged in their family business. She is a very attractive and clever woman and is responsible for PR activity.

The Cornfords have two children: a son and a daughter. Their son, Steve, is 25 and he lives on his own. He graduated from the University of Rugby and started his own business – computer designing. Steve is a very outdoor person. He is a member of a local yacht club and sometimes plays football for Rugby teem.

Steve’s girlfriend, Pauline, studies at a teacher’s training college. She is a pretty girl, very sociable and friendly. Steve often takes Pauline to a pub, to sit and chat for an hour or so, or they go dancing to the local club. Steve loves Pauline and they are going to get married some day.

Steve’s sister, Alice, is a serious bright girl and does very well at school. She reads a lot and is good at Maths. John is going to send her to Cambridge. She would like to study Economics and Law.

John’s mother–in-law, Mrs.Brown, lives thirty miles away from Rugby, in a small green village. It takes Sarah about 30 minutes to get there by car and visit her mum. Grandma, as the children call her, is very active and still young in spirit though she is in her late sixties. She is fond of gardening and very proud of her roses. ( 326 слов, 1430 знаков)

а) используйте текст как образец для рассказа, употребив не менее 10 – 15 выражений из него;

б) напишите рассказ объемом примерно 160 - 180 слов и отредактируйте его, по возможности избегая повторов и однообразных фраз;
