13.6. Replace the underlined words with synonymous ones.

She had given her daughter permission to go on the trip provided that they were accompanied by an adult. She was worried sick that something would go wrong and constantly told Sally that in the event of an accident she should ring up immediately. She didn’t want her daughter to go but, so as not to seem overprotective, she finally agreed. All Sally’s friends were going on the trip apart from Julie and she knew what they all thought of her. Julie’s parents wouldn’t let her do anything for fear that something terrible might happen. Consequently she had very few friends. Whenever there was a party, she was never invited. On the whole, Sally’s mother decided that despite the risks involved, she had to allow her daughter some freedom lest she too might become unpopular with her schoolmates.
