I Am a Would-Be Accountant
Accounting shows a financial picture of the firm. An accounting department records and measures the activity of a business. It reports on the effect of the transaction of the firm’s financial condition. The purpose of business accounting is to provide information about the current operating results and financial condition of an enterprise to individuals, agencies and organizations who have need and the right to be so informed.
There are several fields of accounting specialization such as tax work, cost accounting, computer-based accounting systems, design and installation management, consulting and budgets preparation.
Book-keepers make calculations and registration of material values. They work at department stores, super-markets and shops. No business firm or company can function without book-keepers.
Book-keepers deal in taxes, cash flow, which includes cash receipts and cash disbursements, sales, purchases and different business transactions of the company.
The accountant is to determine the ways in which the business may grow in the future. No expansion or reorganization is planned without the help of the accountant. Accounting is said to be the “language of business”.
The chief accounting officer of a large company is the Controller. Controllers are responsible for measuring and comparing the company’s performance. They interpret the results of the operations, plan and recommend future actions.
Auditors are usually independent accountants who review the financial records of a company. These reviews are called audits.
