1) My native city is Kharkiv. 2) I was born here fourteen years ago and I have lived here all my life, so I know it very well.

3) Kharkiv is an old and beautiful city.

4) It was founded more that 350 years ago.

5) According to the popular legend the city got its name after the Cossack Kharko.

6) Modern Kharkiv is the second largest city in Ukraine. 7) About two million people live here. 8) It is one of the largest industrial, cultural and scientific centres of our country. 9) Residents of Kharkiv are proud of the city, its newly reconstructed streets and buildings, its underground the first line of which was opened in 1975, its educational establishments, museums, theatres, galleries and libraries.

10) As Kharkiv is an old city, the streets in the centre are narrow and the traffic is very busy. 11) That's why the underground is the most important and the most convenient kind of transport for residents of Kharkiv and its visitors. 12) It saves our time and makes getting around the city easy and pleasant. 13) The stations of the underground are beautiful and clean. 14) The trains arrive at the stations every five minutes so you needn't wait too long.

15) As I have already mentioned, there are many educational establishments in our city. 16) Kharkiv National Pedagogical University and Kharkiv National University named after Karasin are the oldest ones. 17) Thousands of young people from all the places of Ukraine come to our city to try their fortune and become a student of one of the establishments. 18) That's why the natives speak about Kharkiv as a city of students.

19) Our city provides opportunities for both studying and rest, 20) If you have some spare time, you may attend one of the numerous interesting places such as the Museum of Nature, Historical Museum, Art Gallery, Planetarium, Puppet Museum, Anatomical Museum and others. 21) If you are tired or would like to spend the weekend with friends, you can go to Gorky Park, Shevchenko Garden or enjoy your time in the Zoo. 22) Those who prefer having active rest can visit one of the aquaparks or skating-rinks. 23) There is so much to see and to do in Kharkiv!

1) Харків — моє рідне місто. 2) Я народилася тут 14 років тому і живу все життя, тому знаю його дуже добре. 3) Харків — старе й гар­не місто. 4) Воно було засноване більш як 350 років тому. 5) За ві­домою легендою, місто названо на честь козака Харка.

6) Сучасний Харків — Друге за величиною місто в Україні. 7) Тут мешкає близько двох міль­йонів чоловік. 8) Це один з най­більших промислових, культурних і наукових центрів нашої країни. 9) Харків'яни пишаються своїм міс­том, його нещодавно поновленими вулицями і будівлями, його метро, перша лінія якого була відкрита в 1975 році, його навчальними за­кладами, музеями, театрами, гале­реями і бібліотеками.

10) Оскільки Харків — старе місто, вулиці в центрі вузькі, і тран­спортний рух дуже напружений.

11) Ось чому метро — це найваж­ливіший і найзручніший вид транс­порту для харків'ян і гостей міста.

12) Воно економить наш час і ро­бить пересування містом легким та приємним. 13) Станції метро гарні й чисті. 14) Поїзди прибувають на станцію кожні п'ять хвилин, тому не треба довго чекати.

15) Як я вже сказала, в міс­ті багато навчальних закладів.16) Харківський національний пе­дагогічний унівеситет і Харківський національний університет ім. В. Н. Каразіна — найстаріші з них.

17) Тисячі молодих людей з усіх куточків країни приїжджають до нашого міста, щоб випробувати свої сили й стати студентами одного з ВНЗ. 18) Ось чому місцеві жителі називають Харків студентським містом.

19) Наше місто дає можливість не тільки навчатися, а й відпочива­ти. 20) Якщо у вас є трохи вільного часу, ви можете відвідати одне з ба­гатьох цікавих місць, наприклад музей природи, історичний музей, художню галерею, планетарій, музей ляльок, анатомічний музей тощо. 21) Якщо ви втомилися або хочете провести вихідні з друзя­ми, можна піти до парку Горького, саду Шевченка або добре відпочити в зоопарку. 22) Ті, хто віддає пере­вагу активному відпочинку, можуть відвідати аквапарк або ковзанку. 23) У Харкові можна стільки всього подивитися і зробити!
