The estimation procedure and criteria of students’ knowledge estimation
Current estimation of students’ knowledge.
The current control is carried out when having seminars and individual classes.
1. The current control is aimed at checking the level of students’ mastering of the course’s educational material. The task of the current control is checking of understanding and mastering of the educational material provided by the course curriculum, having ideas on the structure of the national legal system, specific features to the subject and the regulation method of law leading areas of Ukraine and their fundamental positions, independent search skills for necessary regulatory legal acts and their correct use when resolving typical practical situations.
2. Current control objects of students’ knowledge are: the system and the activity of their work during seminars; independent tasks fulfilment; fulfilment of individual tasks. The tasks for independent work are rated under their professional competence levels into three groups: the sufficient, the elementary and the high level of preparation, each of which considers tasks of relevant degree of complexity. The first group of problems is of reproductive character, it focuses on mastering of the basic level of the curriculum, it provides for mastering concepts and terms, basic categories, it ensures the basis for further work with a material. When fulfilling the problems of this group it is recommended to draw up basic abstracts and to compile the vocabulary of legal nomenclature, to work regularly at seminars. The second group of tasks is of analytically-search character, it requires to search knowledge independently for the themes assigned to independent studying by a curriculum, to analyze the information and to be able to present a material properly, to have skills to apply acquired knowledge when resolving typical practical situations. When fulfilling the tasks of this group a student free to choose kinds and types of tasks, but they are an obligatory part of the module as they provide for more thorough preparation. The third group of tasks is of research character, they induce to maximal realizations of the students’ creative opportunities, it is recommended to those of them who have mastered the basic content of the curriculum and have abilities and interest to such a work. These tasks constitute elective part of the module and their fulfilment is encouraged by additional points.
3. Such forms and methods are applied to realize the current control:
During a seminar: an oral interrogation, a face-to-face conversation, discussing reports and abstracts, discussions; a test control, a conceptual dictation, an express train-interrogation; consideration of the materials of analytical reviews of publications for a certain problem; resolving of practical situations, business games.
During individual classes: oral and written test control (such control is applied to the students who have academic indebtedness for current issues under reasonable excuse); analysis of the materials of publications reviews for a certain problem; consideration of the prepared materials of the practical situations analysis; an interview regarding the themes assigned by curriculum for independent studying; discussion of the scientific abstract materials for a certain problem.
4. The task of the current control is evaluated within a range from 0 up to 100 points (inclusive). Each task should be executed by a student within the terms prescribed by the educational schedule and it is evaluated in points under a certain scale. Students who had missed classes under reasonable excuse and have corresponding documents, should report on their fulfilment of the tasks that are obligatory components of a module during individual classes. Students who study under their individual schedules, report on mastering the curriculum during individual classes according to the approved schedule.
