The methodological recommendations to fulfil individual tasks

One of the forms of the individual creative work is writing and upholding of the abstract.

The work with the abstract consists of the following stages:

  • the choice of a theme on the basis of the themes approved by the chair;

  • the accumulation of the information; preparation and writing of the abstract;

  • upholding of the abstract.

The abstract is to have the following structure:

  • the plan;

  • a short introduction;

  • an exposition of the basic content of the theme;

  • conclusions;

  • the list of references.

The plan is a logical basis of the abstract. The structure, the content, logic connection of parts of the abstract depend on it. The plan development begins with familiarizing oneself with the corresponding literature on the basis of which the previous plan consisting of 2-3 items had been composed. The plan is not be too detailed, the basic central questions of the theme are to be logically sequenced in it. It is expedient to agree the plan of the abstract in advance at the consultation with the teacher.

Having the previous plan, it is necessary to address the bibliography. Library catalogues (alphabetic, regular, subject), reference books (encyclopaedias, dictionaries, statistical collections), scientific and periodic literature (monographs, journals, newspapers) can grant essential help in getting acquainted with the bibliography.

The introduction proceeds the basic text in the abstract. It is necessary to show a significance, an urgency of the considered problem, to justify a choice of the theme, to formulate the basic aim which will be elucidated in the abstract.

In the basic part of work a significant attention should be paid to deep theoretical analysis of both the themes as a whole, and its separate questions, to correctly associate theoretical positions with practice, to elucidate the material according to the composed plan.

An account of the basic questions is finished with short conclusions where the major provisions considered in the abstract are generalized.

The abstract should be written competently, without mistakes, repetitions, reductions.

A correct registration of the abstract is of great value. The title page should contain the name of a higher educational establishment, the department, the theme of the abstract, the group, the surname and the initials, the surname of the scientific advisor of studies. The following sheet shall have the plan of the abstract with reference to the pages of corresponding sections.

The citations referred to in the text should comply with the references to the sources they refer to and registered like this: [1, p. 25] where the first figure is a number of the source according to the list of references and the second one specifies the number of the page. The text of the abstract should be computer-typed on one side of a sheet of А4 format, the font Times New Roman, size 14, the fields: a top and bottom ones is 20 mm, the left one is 30 mm, the right one is 10 mm, an interval is 1.5.

Each section of the plan begins with a new page. The pages should be numbered in the right top corner. The volume of the abstract is 12-15 pages.

In the end of the abstract the list of references (8-10 sources), situated in the alphabetic order according to a surname of the author, with reference to the name of the work (article), the publishing house, the year of publication and the total number of pages for each reference.

The prepared abstract is upheld during a seminar or an individual class. The argument for the preparation of the abstract upholding of is the positive review of the scientific advisor, otherwise it is necessary to additionally re-complete it in accordance with the available remarks. The abstract is not subject to upholding if the text of the abstract is a compilation of the textbook’s text; the basic questions have not been elucidated or have been stated fragmentarily; the text contains mistakes; the abstract has been registered incorrectly.

The preparation for the abstract upholding includes elimination of shortcomings and mistakes specified in the review and drawing up of the short resume of the abstract (definition of the important concepts, facts, formulation of the conclusions), that will assist a material memorizing and its free exposition during the upholding.
