The role of physics in developing general cultural and professional competencies in students of technical universities

O. Belousova (SibSUTIS, Novosibirsk)

“Physics” as a discipline is the basis for developing a systemic approach aimed at solving professional tasks in graduates’ future work. When studying physics they acquire knowledge and skills needed to study major subjects later. They also broaden the outlook on nature and science.

The importance of pre-university training of applicants and raising their level of knowledge by SibSUTIS physics department teachers and its influence

on their doing the course of physics

I. Grishchenko, V. Lubski, A. Sherstyakov

(SibSUTIS, Novosibirsk)

Over many years SIBSUTIS physics department teachers have been giving supplementary tutorials in the city high schools. The main areas of teaching are as follows: solving tasks of high level competitions and participating in different competitions on physics, high school students research work presented at scientific and practical conferences and competitions of different level, physical experiments demonstrations and master classes on computer technologies.

Adjustment of the physics department curriculum when training bachelors in compliance with fses-3

I. Grishchenko, V. Lubski, T. Pinegina

(SibSUTIS, Novosibirsk)

On one hand, the main purpose of University education is introducing the competence approach in it. On the other hand, catastrophic worsening of high school leavers knowledge is to be observed. However, in the course of transition to the baccalaureate the course in physics has been drastically reduced (by 40%) in the University curriculum. In view of the above, the curriculum has been essentially corrected. All problems and negative phenomena have been taken into account and new approaches to the curriculum adjustment have been suggested. At the physics department the problem involved is being solved in an all-round way. The combination of innovative and traditional methods have been used for preparation of lecture courses, as well as practical and laboratory studies, for organization of

individual students activities, development of the system of testing and application of information computer system.

The importance of experimental lecture courses and laboratory works for learning physics by bachelors

V. Lubski

(SibSUTIS, Novosibirsk)

Unfortunately high school graduates have never seen elementary devices and their elements at school . As a result freshmen have poor knowledge of physics and they have no idea of the structure of devices and their operation. Experimental laboratory works and lectures are aimed at acquainting students with laboratory equipment and motivating them to study physics as well as better comprehending of theoretic knowledge and their practical application.

A. Streltsov

(SibSUTIS, Novosibirsk)

The report deals with providing information opportunities for students to study physics at the SIBSUTIS Physics department via the Internet site created by the Physics department.

Development of fundamental courses for new specialties

A. Cherevko, V. Lubski,

V. Voloshin, O. Shegay, A. Streltsov

(SibSUTIS, Novosibirsk)

Recently in SibSUTIS several new high-technology specialties such as «Integral and Nano Electronics» «Engineering Nanotechnologies in Instrument Making» «Safety Requirements for Technological Processes in Production» have been introduced. To train specialists in these areas it is necessary to raise general physical level of education, adjusting it in compliance with upto -date science. Therefore, the Physics department staff have prepared the following courses «The Physics of a Condensed State» (PCS), «Gas and Hydrodynamics», «Methods of Mathematic Simulation», «Thermal Physics», «Quantum Mechanics and Static Physics».

Ways to raise efficiency of technical and computer facilities to study physics

A. Cherevko

162

B. (SibSUTIS, Novosibirsk)

Physics is considered an experimental science. Therefore, one of the main tasks of the course is to train students so that they should acquire experimental experience in the process of training. This task correlates with the goals declared by the country’s governing body: to raise the efficiency of technical specialists trained at Universities. Without computer facilities it is impossible to solve this task. However, these facilities should be of secondary importance, for example, to serve as a simulator.

Students participation in fundamental researches carried out at the department of physic as a factor of raising the level of knowledge of graduates

A. Cherevko

(SibSUTIS, Novosibirsk)

Fundamental research areas carried out at the department of Physics include studying substances in different aggregative states quantum cryptography, photon links, SHF of all the areas mentioned above students prefer to deal with more specific themes. Later these students take master’s course but, unfortunately quit doing research work, though some of them have a Knack for it even in the field of physical experiment. For the time being involving students into abstract research including computer experiments proved to be negative.
