Pilots
PROCEDURE:
(1) Pilotage through the Straits is not compulsory, However, the Turkish Authorities strongly advise the use of a pilot in these waterways because of strong currents and high density of traffic.
All vessels passing through the Straits with or without a pilot should have an Istanbul agent nominated for payment of taxes and fees.
(2) Pilotage is compulsory for the following areas:
(a) Canakkale Karanlik Liman
(b) Izmit KOrfezi
(c) Port of Galata and inner port of Istanbul
(d) Selviburnu and Cubuklu oil installations in Istanbul Bogazi
(e) Anchorages at Dolmabah~
(3) Request for pilots should be sent as part of Sailing Plan 1(SP1) and Sailing Plan 2 (SP2). See Vessel Traffic Service and Reporting System (TOBRAP), REPORTING.
(4) Vessels should maintain a listening watch on the VHF working frequency of the relevant working sector during passage or at anchorage within the Turkish Straits VTS (TSVTS) area.
(5) Vessels stopped or anchored in the Straits should report their position to the relevant VTS sector.
