5. Read the text. Khabarovsk Territory

Khabarovsk Territory is a federal subject of Russia, located in the Russian Far East. It lies mostly in the basin of the lower Amur River, but also occupies a vast mountainous area along the coastline of the Sea of Okhotsk. Khabarovsk is the administrative center of the Territory. Indigenous peoples of the area are the Evenks, Negidals, Ulchs, Nanai, Oroch, Udege, and Amur Nivkhs.

Coat of Arms

Flag

On July 28, 1994 Khabarovsk Territorial Council adopted the flag and coat of arms of Khabarovsk Territory. The flag of Khabarovsk Territory is the symbol of sovereign governing authority of Khabarovsk Territory.

Description of the flag of Khabarovsk Territory

The flag is divided in forked manner into three parts. The central angle of the triangle measures 90 degrees. Field N.1 is green, field N.2 is white, field N.3 is (light) blue.

Heraldic colors signify:

blue - symbol of beauty, softness, grandeur. In the given case it symbolizes also the abundant water resources of the territory;

green - the color of hope, joy, abundance. It symbolizes also the uniqueness of the flora and fauna of our territory, "the limitless sea of taiga."

white (silver) - symbol of purity, goodness, innocence.

In the flag it reflects the cloudless, peaceful sky, the purity of the intentions of the inhabitants of the territory.

The coat of arms of Khabarovsk Territory is a symbol of sovereign legal status of Khabarovsk Territory.

Description of the Coat of Arms of Khabarovsk Territory

The coat of arms is executed on the shield of French heraldic form. In the center of the shield, of silver (white) color, is depicted a powerful natural figure of a bear, black in color, white-breasted, sitting on its hind paws, which in its forepaws carefully holds to its breast the historical coat of arms of Khabarovsk, the administrative center of Khabarovsk Territory. The head of the bear is turned toward the rising sun, to the east.

Three heraldic colors and two colors of metal are used for the coat of arms:

red - symbolizes bravery, courage, fearlessness;

blue - a symbol of beauty, gentleness, greatness;

black - symbolizes sense, humility, sorrow;

gold - a symbol of riches, fairness, magnanimity;

silver - a symbol of cleanliness, good, independence.

The coat of arms of Khabarovsk Territory is made according to the certain heraldic rules. It is a peculiar monument of continuity of the history and culture of the Territory; it mirrors natural and climatic features of the area and basic traditions of people of the Russian Far East.

The bear is maid "armed" - opened mouth, dark red eyes and tongue are evidence of this, and it symbolizes power and inviolability of the Far East boundaries of Russia. The motto of the coat of arms is: "Russia hasn't any outlying districts!" Sergey Loginov, Khabarovsk artist is the author of the flag and coat of arms. Original standards of the flag and coat of arms (author's performance) are displayed at the permanent exposition of the N.I. Grodekov Khabarovsk Regional Lore Museum.
