Lesson 19.Difficult Life of the First Russian Settlers
1. Read an extract from the article. Tell about the first settlers of the Far East.

Амурское казачье войско
Амурское казачье войско было образовано по инициативе генерал-губернатора Восточной Сибири Н. Н. Муравьева-Амурского в период возвращения России левобережья Амура и включения его в состав империи в 1854-1858 гг. Население войска составили забайкальские казаки 2-й конной бригады и пеших батальонов.
В ноябре 1856 г. было решено переселить на Амур 15 тысяч человек обоего пола для образования одного конного полка и четырех пеших батальонов. В 1857г. была переселена 451 казачья семья (1850 человек), занявших побережье Амура на протяжении 980 верст от Усть-Стрелки до Хингана.
С подписанием Айгунского договора в 1858 г. переселение стало регулярным и продолжалось до 1863 г., всего переселено 13 879 человек обоего пола в составе 3 095 семей, образовавших на Амуре 67 станиц и поселков, на Уссури - 29.
1 июня 1860г. Импеpатоp Александp II утвердил "Положение об Амурском казачьем войске", на долгие годы определившее его структуру, права и обязанности. Население казачьего войска делилось на 4 округа: два полковых - по левому берегу Амура от слияния Шилки и Аргуни до селения Хинганского - совр. Амурская область, и два батальонных - Амурский (от Хинганского до устья Уссури) и Уссурийский (по правому берегу Уссури до верховьев и сушей до морского побережья).
Амурские казаки активно участвовали во всех событиях, происходивших в Амурском регионе. 29 декабря 1909 г. в память о первом устроителе Приамурского края Н. Н. Муравьеве полк получил наименование "Амурский казачий генерал-адъютанта графа Муравьева-Амурского полк".
