Всемирный фонд дикой природы
Первые проекты Всемирного фонда дикой природы (WWF) в России начались еще в 1988 году, а в 1994 году открылось Российское Представительство WWF. С тех пор WWF успешно осуществил более 150 полевых проектов в 40 регионах России и вложил более 30 миллионов долларов в работу по сохранению и приумножению природных богатств страны. В 2004 году Всемирный фонд дикой природы стал Российской национальной организацией.
Цель WWF – создание и расширение заповедных территорий, создание в приоритетных экорегионах системы охраняемых природных территорий, повышение эффективности их работы.
WWF разрабатывает законодательные, экономические, теоретические и методические основы создания и управления системой охраняемых природных территорий, создает системы охраняемых природных территорий, поддерживает существующие ООПТ, повышает квалификацию сотрудников ООПТ, ищет пути гармонизации задач охраны природы с вопросами устойчивого развития регионов и соблюдения интересов местного населения…
WWF уделяет большое внимание охране видов, оказавшихся под угрозой исчезновения. Прежде всего, это виды, за сохранение которых Россия несет ответственность в мировом масштабе: амурский тигр, дальневосточный леопард, стерх, ирбис, русская выхухоль, зубр...
Работа, проделанная WWF вместе с другими организациями, не прошла даром. Учет амурского тигра 2004-2005 годов показал, что популяция стабилизировалась – сегодня на Дальнем Востоке обитает около 500 тигров. Благодаря совместным действиям общественных и государственных организаций, в том числе WWF, численность дальневосточного леопарда возросла на 20%. За время работы программы WWF по созданию вольной популяции зубров в дикой природе образовалась группа, которая сегодня уже насчитывает более 100 животных.

Дальневосточный леопард
Дальневосточный леопард - самый северный подвид леопарда. Он отличается густым длинным мехом, особенно заметным в зимнем наряде, и относится к числу красивейших и наиболее редких форм кошек мировой фауны. Дальневосточный леопард занесен в Красную книгу России, Красную книгу МСОП.
К сожалению, уже сегодня положение с дальневосточным леопардом можно считать катастрофическим - за последние 20 лет площадь обитания леопарда в России уменьшилась почти вдвое, а численность cократилась в десятки раз и составляет всего лишь около 30 особей. В Китае по данным последних учетов обитает не более 10 зверей, в Корее достоверных данных о присутствии леопарда нет. Таким образом, по самым оптимистическим оценкам, численность всей мировой популяции дальневосточного леопарда составляет не более 40 особей.
Наблюдаемая на протяжении века тенденция изменения ареала и численности леопарда выглядит угрожающей. Не имеет надежной защиты и последнее убежище дальневосточного леопарда в России - крайний юг Приморского края. Продолжаются вырубки лесов, систематическое выжигание растительности, реконструкция и прокладка дорог, уничтожение особей, наносящих ущерб поголовью пятнистых оленей в оленепарках, попадание леопардов в петли и капканы, предназначенные для других видов животных. Учащаются случаи целенаправленного браконьерства, стимулируемого модой на шкуры и спросом на части тела зверей, которые используются в качестве сырья для приготовления лекарственных препаратов в восточной медицине. На значительной части заселенной леопардами территории ведется охота на копытных и капканный промысел, осуществляется неконтролируемый сбор лекарственных растений, что создает мощный фактор беспокойства.
Такое бездумное варварское уничтожение природы при хозяйственном освоении территорий и возрастающее браконьерство могут стать причиной исчезновения дальневосточного леопарда навсегда.
Все эти факты заставляет относиться к сохранению дальневосточного леопарда и среды его обитания с особым вниманием и требует активного принятия мер.
