Модальные глаголы Модальные глаголы can, may, must
Не can speak English.
I can swim. —
You may take the book. —
Не may be а good friend.
Не might be а good friend.
I must stop smoking. —
You must know English. —
You need not tell me about it. — Тебе не нужно говорить мне об этом (я сам знаю);
You should see her. — Тебе следует (ты должен) повидать её;
You ought to be more attentive. —
You ought to see a dentist. —
You should see a dentist. —
You must see a dentist. —
Заменители модальных глаголов can, may, must
саn — to be able to (able — способный) — уметь, быть способным сделать что-то:
Не will be able to do it.
Не was able to do it.
Не is able to do it.
may — to be allowed to (to allow — разрешать) — иметь разрешение, возможность сделать что-то, например:
You will be allowed to go home. —
I was allowed to take part in the discussion. —
must — to have to — должен, приходится,
Два заменителя глагола must (to have to и to be to) имеют одинаковое значение должен, однако с разными оттенками долженствования.
I must go there— Я должен (обязательно, мне нужно) поехать туда.
I am to go there, — Я обязан (должен по плану, и по договоренности) поехать туда.
I have to go there.
You may not go.
You should not say such words. —
Не is not to do it.
You must not go there.
You need not go there.
Нe had to change his plan.— Ему пришлось изменить свой план.
Не did not have to change his plan.
Не will have to change his plan.
Hе will not have to change his plan.
Can he play football? —
Yes, he can. No, he cannot. Мay I go home? Yes, you may. No, you may not.
Не had to go there.
Did he have to go there?
Yes, he did. No, he did not.
Не will have to go there.
Will he have to go there?
Yes, he will. No, he will not.
