The Future in the Past Indefinite передаёт будущее действие, о котором говорилось в прошедшем. Оно образуется из вспомогательных глаголов should и would +- 1-я форма спрягаемого глагола:

I should work we should work

– you would work

he, she, it would work they would work

He said that he would come at ten o'clock.

The Future in the Past Continuous передаёт действие в его развитии, происходящее в определённый момент в будущем, о котором говорится в прошедшем:

I told them that at two o'clock the following day I should be having a music lesson.

Образуется оно из вспомогательных глаголов should или would + инфинитив в Continuous (=be + 4-я форма глагола):

I should be working we should be working

– you would be working

he, she, it would be working they would be working

The Future in the Past Perfect употребляется для выражения действия, совершённого к определённому моменту в будущем, о котором говорится в прошедшем:

He said yesterday that by the time we were back he would have finished the letter.

Образуется оно из вспомогательных глаголов should и would + инфинитив в Perfect (= have + 3-я форма глагола):

I should have worked – he, she, it would have worked

we should have worked you would have worked they would have worked

Практически Future in the Past Perfect почти не употребляется. Future in the Past Perfect Continuous совсем не употребляется.

§ 4. Глаголы в обстоятельственных придаточных предложениях сравнения

Verbs in the adverbial subordinate clauses of comparison

Глаголы в обстоятельственных предложениях сравнения могут стоять в любом времени, независимо от времени, употреблённого в главном предложении. Это часто относится также и к глаголам в придаточных определительных предложениях:

You know English as well as he did last year.

Before he came to Moscow he looked worse than he does now.

Next year you will be more interested in reading English books than you were last year.

The man whom you see here was at the front with my brother.

The key which I left in my room is quite necessary for me now.

Last year my pupils did not read English so well as they do now.

§ 5. Выражение общеизвестной истины в придаточном дополнительном предложении Universal truth in the attributive subordinate clause

Если в придаточном дополнительном предложении утверждается какая-нибудь непреложная общеизвестная истина, то, несмотря на прошедшее время главного предложения, в придаточном можно употребить настоящее время, т. е. в этих случаях закон согласования времён не действует:

The teacher told us that the earth moves round the sun.

The pupils learned at the geography lesson that there are four cardinal points – the North, the South, the East and the West.

He was trying to prove that this English word comes from French.

I always knew that people with no ear for music make bad singers.

She told me that the distance between Moscow and Leningrad is 600 kilometres.
