Введение

Врожденными дефектами называют отклонения в строении или функционировании органов, уже имеющиеся в момент рождения. Такие дефекты, встречающиеся у большинства пород собак и кошек, возникают в результате патологических процессов, протекающих на тех или иных стадиях эмбрионального развития. Вопреки распространенному заблуждению они не всегда являются результатом генетических нарушений и могут быть вызваны различными факторами. Термин «врожденный» не означает «наследственный», хотя бывают патологии одновременно и врожденные, и наследственные. Многие дефекты нельзя выявить без клинического или лабораторного обследования. По оценкам, совокупность врожденных дефектов, представляющая угрозу для жизни новорожденного, встречается у 1–2 % породистых щенков. К сожалению, частота врожденных патологий определялась лишь в небольшом числе исследований.
