Некоторые трудности при переводе конструкций с инфинитивом, герундием и причастием

При переводе инфинитива и конструкций с инфинитивом могут представлять трудность следующие случаи.

1. Употребление инфинитива в качестве определения, ко­торый в таких случаях чаще всего переводится на русский язык придаточным определительным предложением.

• There are still a number of considerations to be taken into account. – Все еще есть ряд соображений, которые необходимо принять во внимание.

• The competition to be faced... – Конкуренция, с которой при­дется столкнуться...

2. Конструкция “for + infinitive” (“for-phrase”)

– The only possible measure is for local councils to raise their finance through a tax on income. – Единственный выход – чтобы муниципалитеты пополняли свой бюджет за счет подоходного налога.

3. Конструкция to be likely (unlikely)+ infinitive, очень распространенная в текстах экономического характера, пере­водится следующим образом: to be likely вероятно, по всей вероятности; to be unlikely маловероятно, чтобы...

• Exports are likely to increase. – По всей вероятности, объем экспорта увеличится.

• Exports are unlikely to increase… – Маловероятно, чтобы объ­ем экспорта увеличился.

Перевод герундия инфинитивом

• The poor quality of the samples prevented the buyers from making another order. – Низкое качество образцов помешало покупателям сделать еще один заказ.

Перевод герундиального оборота (N + Ving) придаточным предложением, вводимым союзом «то, что» (в соответствующем падеже). Непосредственно герундий переводится глаголом в личной форме.

– They insisted on the question being re-considered. – Они на­стаивали на том, чтобы вопрос был пересмотрен.

– The agent informs the seller of the cargo having been insured. – Агент сообщает продавцу о том, что груз уже застрахован (застраховали).

При переводе герундия в оборотах the engineer coming, the engineer's coming необходимо помнить, что в обороте с существительным в общем падеже подчеркивается скорее процесс действия, а в обороте с существительным в притяжа­тельном падеже основной акцент делается на действии как на факте.

The news of the engineer arriving on Tuesday was unexpect­ed - Известие о том, что инженер возвращается во вторник, бы­ло неожиданным.

The news of the engineer's arriving on Tuesday was unexpect­ed. Известие о возвращении инженера во вторник было не­ожиданным.

Независимый причастный оборот (сущ./ местоим. + причастие) переводится раз­личными обстоятельственными придаточными предложениями. Если оборот стоит в начале предложения, его перевод начинается со слов так как, как только или когда, после того, как

– Loading being over, the workers left the port. После того как (так как) погрузка была закончена, рабочие покинули порт. (придаточное предложение времени или причины).

Некоторую трудность для перевода представляют само­стоятельные причастные обороты с предлогом with. Они очень распространены в экономической литературе. Если данный оборот стоит после главного предложения, он переводится, придаточным предложением сопутствующих обстоятельств, начинающимся со слова причем.

• The expansion of trade resulted in the improvement in the foreign trade figures, with exports growing by 12%. – Расшире­ние торговли привело к улучшению показателей по внешней торговле, причем экспорт возрос на 12%.

Если же оборот предшествует главному предложению, он переводится придаточным предложением причины, вводимым сою­зом так как; ввиду того, что

– With the viewpoints being opposed, the negotiations broke down. Ввиду того, что точки зрения разошлись, переговоры были сорваны.

Причастный оборот, начинающийся с “given” обычно соответствует в русском языке придаточному предло­жению условия или причины и вводится словами: учитывая, при наличии, при условии и т. п.

– It is not difficult to understand that given success on the above-mentioned points, it would be possible to approach the problem of our overseas trade in an entirely different way. – Нетрудно понять, что если мы добьемся успеха в отношении ' вышеупомянутых пунктов, станет возможным подойти к ре­шению проблем, стоящих перед нашей внешней торговлей, совершенно по-иному.

Переведите предложения на русский язык.

1)The British Government is said to have offered £3,000,000 for the purchase of the plant. 2) Our current transactions in the balance of international payments are like­ly to show a larger deficit than last year. 3) The chronic gap between the country's imports and exports appears to have been reduced in August. 4) July was reported to have been the best tourist month. 5) The buyer proceeds with placing an order for the required goods. 6) Keynes spoke of the probability that the economic problem may be solved within a hundred years (given no wars and no large population increase). 7) I say that, given the oppor­tunities, the merchants and bankers of the City of London will continue to make an increasingly significant contribution to our economic strength. 8) Given the natural resources and the population necessary for an independent country, its real income will depend on the level of employment and on the effi­ciency of labour. 9) But given the low rate of investment, the foreign balance was bound to come under periodical pressure as foreign competitive power displaced our exports and increas­ed our imports. 10) The Chancellor of the Excheq­uer has an enormous team of experts working out what the effects of any change in taxation are likely to be. 11) The likely pattern of trade between the U.
