Утром, как назло, стояла жара, и заниматься не хотелось. Лори отказался от занятий, чем вызвал неудовольствие мистера Брука. Потом он отправился музицировать, провел за роялем целых полдня, и дед за это на него рассердился. Оскорбленный такой несправедливостью, Лори сорвал гнев, объявив, что одна из собак, кажется, взбесилась. Сообщение это вызвало настоящую панику. Затем Лори пошел в конюшню и поссорился с конюхом, совершенно несправедливо обвинив его в том, что лошадь недостаточно ухожена. После этого славного деяния Лори счел себя вконец обиженным жизнью. - Тогда садитесь на корабль и не возвращайтесь домой, пока не попытаетесь осуществить задуманное, - посоветовала Джо.
Она горячо сочувствовала другу и считала, что такой отчаянный поступок стал бы лучшим выходом из сложившейся ситуации.
