Grammar 1: review of narrative tenses
1. Choose the correct alternative in each of these sentences. Then match them to the statements a-I about use of tenses.

We use:
a) the past continuous to say that something was in progress at a particular time or event.
b) the past perfect to show that something happened before something else.
c) the present continuous for temporary actions and situations that are currently in progress.
d) the past simple with expressions that refer to a completed period of time, e. g. yesterday, in 2003.
e) the present perfect to indicate that a finished action or event is related to the present.
f) the present continuous for future arrangements.
g) the past simple to talk about the past (unless there is a reason to use a different tense).
h) the present perfect continuous used for an unfinished action continuing into the present.
i) the past perfect continuous to show that one long event happened before another in the past.
2. Prepare to tell your partners about a travel incident that you have heard of or a time when you had a difficult or unusual travel experience yourself. Write your notes up as a paragraph. Check your tenses, and make sure that they are accurate. Answer any questions they may have.
