V. Прочитайте текст "Aeration Irrigation", письменно ответьте на вопросы.

  1. What does aeration irrigation mean?

  2. What are the advantages of aeration irrigation?

Aeration Irrigation

The principle of aeration irrigation involves a combination of air and irrigation water.

Basically aeration irrigation means reducing the water application rate to approximately 50% of the soil intake rate and irrigating a set for a period twice as long as would normally be used. In theory, air is taken into the soil along with water when this lighter application rate is used.

The advantages of this method are the elimination of soil compaction, water runoff, and the overall improvement of the soil structure. Silt particles are never disturbed and a supply of air and oxygen is always present in the plant feeder root zone.

Maintaining this condition means increased activity of soil bacteria and microorganisms which leads to soil improvement through the movement of carbon dioxide, ammonia, nitrogen and minerals. Greater yields have been a characteristic result when crops were sprinkled at this light application rate.
