Упражнение 41.

Выпишите фразеологические сочетания и переведите их.

A. 1) He knew the three people were looking at him but he took no notice. 2) I must apologize for making that speech. 3) I made my way to one of the fireplace". 4) He paid no attention to the noisy music. 5) I caught sight of a large fir-tree and made up my mind that I would stay in it till daylight. 6) Just as I was going to close the suitcase, a horrible thought came into my head. 7) The chair slipped and George caught hold of the trout-case to save himself. 8) I soon made friends with, the captain. 9) I will do you no harm. 10) My master went out to the fields again, and as I understood by his voice told his wife to take care of me. 11) He became a soldier and, took part in many wars. 12) You may set your mind at ease. 13) You're making an ass of yourself. 14) She lost courage and hurried by too overcome with shame to enter. 15) He wouldn't make a fool of himself like that. 16) Mr. Osborn made a few sharp remarks about the fish. 17) Rogov gave a friendly laugh. 18) Gideon nodded, making up his mind to keep his mouth shut and listen. 19) Gideon, quick to take offense at anything now, answered, "I ain't from the hills, ma'am." 20) Marian took a drink of the spirits. 21) I would take some long walks over the island. 22) He does not lose heart and continues to write and study at the same time. 23) They shook hands, said goodnight, and he lifted his hat.

Упражнение 42.

Выпишите фразеологические единицы и расклассифицируйте их на сочетания, единства и сращения. Переведите их на русский язык.

В. 1) June saw she had played a wrong card and broke down. 2)He took a look at her, she was smiling. 3) She has got some silly bee in her bonnet about Eliza. 4) Ah, there you have hit the nail on the head. 5) Little Jon could see that he played second fiddle to her in his father's heart. 6) I couldn't forget it and I took revenge. 7) The sooner they stop calling one another names the better. 8) His son, the apple of his eye, fell ill with scarlet fever. 9) Are you very rich? No, living from hand to mouth. 10) He must be in very low water.

Упражнение 43.

Переведите предложения на русский язык, выпишите фразеологические сочетания и подберите, где возможно, соответствующий однословный эквивалент. Обратите внимание на возможность разобщения компонентов.

B. 1) This was the time to make the quick dash south to the Mediterranean. 2) He caught a glimpse of a most singular thing. 3) The woman cast a shy glance full of constraint at Ransie. 4) The elder sister, a girl of about twenty-one, gave me a smile and a bright look from her brown eyes. 5) He took a swift turn up and down the room. 6) When she saw me behind him, she gave a little cry and stood up radiant. 7) He took a look at her, she was smiling. 8) George knew that his papa was about to take a nap. 9) I made him a bow. 10) Miss Murdstone gave a hoarse chuckle. 11) He gave her a sidelong look, and found she was giving him the same. 12) Pettinger took a drink and offered the bottle to Jasha. 13) I had my reward in the first glance of admiration she ever gave me. 14) She took a step backwards and put out her hands. 15) Mantin gave orders to bring all the sandbags. 16) Soames stole a glance. 17) I took a resolve and lay down. 18) Miss Sharp gave a little puff, and a little scream, and a little giggle. 19) On the days when he does not come, she takes a long walk into London.

Выпишите фразеологические единицы; составьте список глагольных фразеологических единиц (поставив глагол в неопределенной форме) с переводом на русский язык. Обратите внимание на переносное значение нижеприведенных фразеологических единиц; где возможно, сопоставьте с русскими фразеологическими единицами и обратите внимание на случаи несовпадения лежащего в их основе образа.

Из следующих предложений выпишите именные и глагольные фразеологические единицы и переведите их.
