Conversational Formulas:

Do you live in a house or a block of flats? — У вас свой дом или квартира?

I've just had my flat repaired. — Я только что отремонтировал(а) квартиру.

Their flat is well furnished. — У них квартира хорошо обставлена.

We moved to another flat. — 1) Мы переехали на новую квартиру.

2) Мы поменяли квартиру.

I live at 15 Gogol Street. — Я живу в доме 15 по улице Гоголя.

I live on the fourth floor. — Я живу на пятом этаже.

X. Make up statements or questions for which the following could serve as response. Use the words and expressions suggested below:

a room in a mess; bad housing conditions; an untidy kitchen; a cosy smartly furnished room; a room crammed with furniture; a room with a lack of furniture; an old room (with old furniture) that needs redecoration; getting about the house; using a lift.

Yes, dear, you're right. The place is in an awful mess. I'll get around to things first.

1. Renting a Room

  2. Yes, sir. What room do you want? A double-bedded room or a single?

  1. I want a furnished living-room on the ground floor with boarding and attendance.

  2. How long will you require it?

  1. I intend to stay about two months. Will you show me what rooms you have?

  2. Certainly. Will you come this way, please.

  1. I like the room. It’s tidy and comfortable.

  2. The room is furnished and carpeted all over as you see. Here is a wardrobe where you can hang your clothes.

  1. I need a desk to work at. And I like to have my boots cleaned every morning.

  2. Yes, sir.

  1. And my breakfast must be ready at eight sharp. What will the price be, including full board and attendance?

  2. How will you take the room, by the week or by the month?

  1. Does it make any difference?

  2. It does, sir. If you take it for two months, you can take it for twenty pounds a months. If you take it by week, you’ll be charged much more, sir.

  1. All right. I’ll take it for two months. By the way, where does this door lead?

  2. To the street, sir.
