§ 11 Займенники any, anybody, anyone, anything вживаються:

1. у запитаннях без питального слова і в заперечних реченнях:

Are there any fruit-trees there? – Там є фруктові дерева?

There aren’t any flowers here. – там немає квітів.

I don’t see anything. – Я не бачу нічого.

Was anyone here just now? – Тут був хто-небудь тільки що?

Has anybody in this group got a dictionary? – Чи є у когось в групі словник?

2. у стверджувальних реченнях, де any має значення будь-який; anybody, anyone - будь-хто; anything - будь-що;

You can buy stamps at any post-office. – Марки можна купити в будь – якому поштовому відділенні.

You can have anything you like. – Можеш взяти все, що тобі подобається.

Take any cake you want. – Візьми будь – яке тістечко.

That is a very easy question – anyone can answer it. – Це дуже легке запитання – будь – хто може відповісти на нього.

§ 12 До заперечних займенників належать no, nobody, no one, nothing, none:

There are no pictures in this book. – В цій книжці немає картинок.

The question was so difficult that nobody could answer it. – Питання було таким важким, що ніхто не міг відповісти на нього.

I could see nothing: it was dark. – Я не міг нічого побачити: було темно.

§ 13 Якщо підмет або додаток у реченні виражено заперечним займенником, то дієслово - присудок вживається у стверджувальній формі:

Nobody had been there. – Нікого там не було.

She knows nothing. – Вона нічого не знає.

§ 14 Заперечний займенник no є займенником-прикметником, він вживається перед іменником:

She has got no piano. – У неї немає рояля.

No dictionary could help him. – Ніякий словник не міг йому допомогти.

§ 15 Займенники nobody, no one - ніхто, нікого; nothing - ніщо, нічого; є займенниками-іменниками, що вживаються у функції підмета і додатка:

No one answered. - Ніхто не відповів.

I knew nothing about all this at the time. Я нічого не знав про це все тоді.

Nothing could be done before morning. – Нічого не можна було зробити до ранку.

§ 16 У ролі додатка поряд з nobody, no one, nothing часто вживаються займенники anybody, anyone, anything; дієслово-присудок при цьому має заперечну форму. Але у функції підмета вживається лише сполучення з no:

She said nothing. = She did not say anything.

There is nobody in that room. = There is not anybody in that room.

We saw nothing in the hall. = We did not see anything in the hall.

No one spoke to him. (!)

Nothing could help him. (!)

§ 17 Займенники nobody, no one виконують у присвійному відмінку функцію означення:

It was nobody’s house. – Це був нічий будинок.

§ 18 Заперечний займенник none є займенником-іменником. Він вживається стосовно істот і неістот і виконує в реченні функції підмета або додатка:

None of the rooms were ready. – Жодна з кімнат не була готова.

I want none of your money. – Мені не треба нічого з ваших грошей.
