Времена группы Progressive (Active)

Времена группы Progressive употребляются для выражения длительных, незаконченных действий в процессе их совершения в настоящем, прошедшем и будущем времени.

Времена группы Progressive (Active) образуются при помощи вспомогательного глагола to be в соответствующем времени, лице и числе и причастия настоящего времени Participle I смыслового глагола (так называемой 4-й формы глагола).

Ex. 1. Read and translate the sentences.

1. Yesterday from 3 p.m. till 5 p.m. they were preparing for the seminar on the State

Structure of the UK. 2. After the report they were discussing the problem of criminality in our country. 3. This judge is preparing to hear a very serious case now. 4. Tomorrow at 9 o’clock we shall be making a very interesting experiment. 5. They were debating a new bill when somebody entered the room. 6. What were you doing at 8 p.m. yesterday? – Yesterday at 8 p.m. we were watching an evening session of the Congress. 7. Who is investigating this crime? – My friend is. 8. What will you be doing from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. tomorrow? – Tomorrow from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. we shall be taking our written test in English. 9. He is studying jurisprudence. 10. The old judge was talking about the origin of the institution of the jury.

Ex. 2. Read and translate the sentences. Make them: a) interrogative; b) negative.

Ex. 3. Complete the sentences with the verbs in parentheses. Use the Simple Past, Simple Present, or Past Progressive.
