Before working with charts you may install the cartographic data which depends on various chart types, read carefully the "Installing data and cartography" chapter for more details.

The software is compatible with cartographic data from several publishers which may be in vectorial (Vector Charts) or rasterized (Raster Charts) form saved on the hard disk or CD-ROM.

(contact your dealer for more information concerning data available).

You can choose the chart to be used depending on your requirements.

In this section you will learn on :

The Open file window appears and allows you to specify the location where you want to locate the chart.

Then pull down the pop-up menu File of type and select the type of the chart that you wish to open ( vector or rasterized). For example, if you wish to open a Mapmedia CD-ROM, select Mapmedia from the File of type pop-up menu.

Insert the Mapmedia CD-ROM that you wish to open. After a short while, the contents of the CDROM are displayed as a list in the dialog box.

Select the chart stored on the CD-ROM by clicking its name in the list; then click Open (or double click the chart name in the list).

4 - the chart is opened and displayed in the chart window

All charts which are either Raster or Vector, are displayed in the same seamless window.

The boundaries, or outlines, of the charts you have installed are displayed on the chart to help you to find them quickly. This feature is activated by default. If you want to disable this option, select the [option: Display...] from the [Display] menu and check or un check "Chart outlines display" box .

(3)- if you need to enter unlock codes for using Mapmedia charts go to the [File] menu and select

[Mapmedia User Permits...]

(4)- at any time you can access to the managing vector charts useful functions to update the data or to order. go to the [File] menu and select [Manage 3D Database] (Related topic:Vector charts installation process)

Note: Only four Chart windows can be opened at the same time.

Using chart zone information

The chart zone information is the chart engine for each opened chart window. It allows you to choose which chart you want to display and to customize its display appearance when it is possible (see Vector chart). There are two categories chart zone information depending on opened chart if it is vector or raster.

Chart information on the Chart toolbar lets you control :

1.Click Chart Information button either Raster or vector, to show or hide Chart layers data in the Chart window.

2.Only one category of Chart Information button selected at the same time.

3.Chart Information arrow to open the drop-down menu list . When several Raster or Vector charts are opened together in the same window chart to choose which one you want to show or to hide.

4.When Vector charts are opened in the chart window to change the information display. The "Chart Config" item on zone information menu list will be simultaneously updated according to selected vector chart .

5.To change the chart "Density" depending on chart displayed in the Chart window.

142

Electronic Charts

IMPORTANT - Each opened chart window has its own menu chart display and it depends to the type of the chart.

Changing the display density

The Density function allows displaying a chart, for a given scale, more or less " under zoomed " which is a more general scale, and thus more or less rich in cartographic information.

Click the chart information zone, then select the "Density" option, then select a level from among the five which are proposed:

1.Low

2.Average

3.High

4.Very high

5.Maximal

If the displayed chart type is Raster:

Below is a comparison example of the effect of the density on Raster charts and in particular for the mm2 Mapmedia charts.

To the left, we have a low density: it is easy to read the probe lines.

To the right, same scale, we can have a more detailed view around the boat.

Note: this feature favors the mm2 Mapmedia cartography which uses a powerful high density.

If the chart is Vector type

To the left, high density

To the right, low density, with the same scale

Note : this function is only available for Mapmedia .mm2 raster charts and vector charts.
