The L'EstaquePilot Station maintains a VHF listening watch for both stations

PROCEDURE:

(1) Pilotage is compulsory (and is available H24), for the following:

(a) Vessels over 50m LOA transporting hydrocarbons or dangerous substances

(b) All other vessels over 70m LOA

(2) Vessels must report their ETA to the pilotage station on VHF Ch 08 1hin advance, stating the expected position for embarking pilot. ETAs transmitted with 48h and 24h notice (see Vessel Traffic Service) will be communicated by the Hr Mr to the pilotage station.

(3) Pilot boards In the following positions:

(a) Marseille Harbour: 43°19'·70N5°16'·70E

(b) Endoume Harbour: 43°15'·70N5°19'·00E

Vessel Traffic Service

AREA:

(1) The area of authority of the Marsellle/Fos Maritime Traffic Service (STM), comprises a marine operating area and a port operating area:

(a) Wijhin the limHs administered by the Port Autonome de Marseille (PAM)

(b) Within the administrative limHs of the installations and constructions entrusted to the PAM

(c) Within the area of jurisdiction of the PAM

(d) In the channels and approaches to the Golfe de Fos and to the Port of Marseille for vessels transporting hydrocarbons and dangerous substances

(2) The Marseille area covers the port area and the approach channels to the Port of Marseille.

DESCRIPTION:

The Marseille/Fos Marijime Traffic Service (STM) is an integral system placed under the authority of the Port Autonome de Marseille (PAM), which co-ordinates the service. The purpose 01 the STM is to improve traffic safety, the efficiency of traffic movements and environmental protection.

PROCEDURE:

(1) Reporting is mandatory for ail commercial vessels.

(2) Communications:

(a) Communication on VHF Chs 12 and 73 must be established as early as possible between vessels and the MarHime Traffic Service (STM) Centre

(b) Vessels on passage to or from Marseille which are likely to cross the area off the entrance to the Golfe de Fos must also contact Fos Port Control before entering

(c) Vessels on passage, manoeuvring and at anchor in any part of the area controlled by the STM must maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch 12.

(d) Conversations should take place in French and English using standard IMO terminology.

(e) Pilots can be contacted on VHF Ch 08

(3) Vessels transporting hydrocarbons and dangerous substances must send a SURNAV message 6h prior to entry into French territorial waters (see GENERAL NOTES).

(4) Vessels inward-bound must contact the STM as follows:

(a) 48h before arrival at the pilot boarding position, through the agent stating:

(i) Vessel'sname and call sign

(ii) Destination and port of departure (iii) Draught

(iv) Cargo

(v) LOA, beam and GT (vi) Type of vessel

(vii) ETA

(b) At least 24h before arrival, stating:

(i) ETA at pilot boarding position (ii) Draught

(iii) Nature and tonnage of transported dangerous substances (iv) LOA

(2) The compulsory pilotage area lies between the meridians of 7°10'·00Eand 7" 24'·OOE,bounded in the South by the 43 °36'·OONparallel.

NOTE:

This station provides pilotage to other ports in the area from Pointe du Trayas (43°28'·70N6°56'·00E)to the Italian border.

(b) Vessels over 50m LOA beyond the bridge

(2) Notice of ETA: Vessels should send a request for pilots and ETA 18h in advance or on departure from the previous port if less than 18h distant. Any changes in ETA of more than 1h must be advised.

Vessels must contact the Pilots and Hr Mr on VHF Ch 12, 1h before arrival at the

pilot boarding position.

PROCEDURE:

(1) Vessels carrying hydrocarbons or dangerous substances must obtain permission to enter the approach channel on departure and arrival and should maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch 16 before negotiating the approach channel.

(2) Vessels must report their arrival in the roads to the Hr Mr on VHF Ch 12.

(3) Vessels must obtain permission from the Hr Mr before entering the Passe de l'Est.

(4) Vessels must not manoeuvre within the port without the permission of the Hr Mr. During these movements vessels must maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch 12.

(I) Vessels over 1600 GT carrying hydrocarbons or dangerous substances see GENERAL NOTES. These vessels should report to the Hr Mr 48h in advance stating:

(a) Vessel'sname

(d) Nature and quantity of transported cargo

(e) Length

(Q Beam and draught

(2) Other vessels over 25m LOA should send ETA 24h in advance stating:

(3) Before entering the area Nof a line joining Pointe Rascas (43°04'·00N5°57'·00E) and Cap de Carqueiranne (43°05'·00N6°01'·00E)all vessels over 25m LOA should conlact Cap Cepet Signal Station for permission to enter the Grande Rade.

(4) All vessels which might cause an accident, or pollution as a result of reduced manoeuvrability should call Cap Gepet Signal Station stating the possible dangers.

(5) Vessels moving or stationary Nof the line stated in (3) or within Petite Rade should maintain a conlinuous listening watch with the Naval Base on VHF Chs 16 and 74.

(2) The commander of the Naval Base may approve or refuse requests for exceptions from this compulsory pilotage.
