Phrasal Verbs
1. Study the vocabulary:
to carry out=to fulfil: to carry out in(to) practice=осуществлять, проводить в жизнь/We all have certain duties and jobs to carry out.
to get off (the point/..)=to escape the consequences of an action: He got off very lightly in the accident./He is likely to get off with a small fine.
to give away=to reveal (a confidence or secret, hidden motives, true feelings, etc.): That remark gave away his real feelings.
to keep up with= to act at the same speed/not fall behind: I had to hurry to keep up with her.
to live out sth=to experience or do sth that you have planned or hoped for: The money enabled them to live out their dreams.
to make out=to manage with difficulty to see or hear sb/sth: You can just make out the farm in the distance./ I heard the voices, but couldn't make out what they were saying.
to rise up=to rise/try to defeat the government, army: He rose up from the table and leave this house./They rose up and overthrew the government./to rise up against the government;
to run out=to come to an end/to become extinct: Our food is about to run out.
to shrink from sth/doing sth=to avoid doing sth difficult or unpleasant: to shrink from meeting sb: The leadership too often shrinks from hard decisions./We will not shrink from making the necessary changes in policy.
to sort sth out=to solve (a problem,..): After I sort things out here, I'll be able to concentrate on your problem.
to stand out=to be very easy to see or notice: She always stood out in a crowd;
to stick to=to stay close to/not move from or digress from: We had to stick to Mike’s plan;
to take on=to start to employ sb: They used to take on more workers during the harvest.
