Глагол to be переводится на русский язык словами:

быть, являться, находиться, «это»

we	are [a:]	were [wə:]	shall be

Для образования вопроса и отрицания глагол to be не требует вспомогательного глагола и сам выносится на место перед подлежащим.

He is a very good engineer.

Спряжение глагола to have

Глагол to have переводится на русский язык словами: иметь, есть (в значении «иметь»)

Для образования вопроса глаголу to have требуется вспомогательный глагол: do, does – в настоящем времени, did – в прошедшем.

Оборот there+ to be

Специальный оборот there + to be употребляется, чтобы показать наличие или отсутствие предмета в определенном месте.

Настоящее время	ед. ч. / мн. ч. there is / are	есть, имеется (имеются), существует (ют)
Прошедшее время	ед. ч. / мн. ч. there was / were there has been / have been	было (-а, -и), имелись, существовали
Будущее время	there will be	будет, будут

Перевод предложений с этим оборотом надо начинатьс обстоятельства, стоящего в конце предложения.

При отсутствии обстоятельства перевод следует начинать со сказуемого.

There are many varieties of English.

Существует (есть) много вариантов английского языка.

Для образования вопроса следует вынести глагол to be на первое место.
