Expressing views

If you want to express your opinion, you can begin by saying:

  • As far as I'm concerned ...

  • It seems clear to me that ...

  • Well, obviously ...

  • I'm quite/fairly sure ...

  • I strongly believe ...

  • I have no doubt ...

  • What's really happening is that ...

  • In my opinion ...

  • I'm quite convinced that …

  • We may express this by saying that …

  • This idea is expressed more precisely in …

Clarifying an opinion

It may sometimes be necessary to explain a thought in greater detail. Useful linking expressions for doing this include:

  • By this I mean …

  • Here I'm referring to …

  • To be more precise …

  • That is to say…

  • We state this requirement more precisely as follows …

  • Another way of saying this is …

  • It needs to be ascertained if …

  • As it turned out …

If you want to agree with someone you can say:

  • That's absolutely true …

  • I'm all in favour of that …

  • That's exactly what I think …

  • Right!..

  • I completely agree with you on this matter …

  • I think you’re right …

  • I’m in total agreement …

If you want to disagree with someone you can say:

  • That's more or less true, but ...

  • I guess that's partly true, but ...

  • I see what you mean, but ...

  • That's true, but on the other hand ...

  • I would argue that …

  • I do not believe that …

  • I am unconvinced that …

  • I do not agree that …

  • I’m sorry but I do not quite agree with you on this …

Curiosity

A feel that happen when we really want to know about something. Usually “curiosity” happens when we see something strange or something new.

Expressing curiosity

  • What I’d really like to find out is …

  • I’d be very interested to know …

  • I’ve been meaning to ask you …

  • I’d like to know …

  • I wish I knew …

  • I’d love to know …

  • What’s on your mind..?

  • I wonder if …

  • What possibility is there that ... ?
