Task 12. Translate the following sentences into Ukrainian.

1. Corrosion degrades the useful properties of materials and structures including strength, appearance and permeability to liquids and gases.

2. There are many forms of corrosion, and while some are well understood at the macro level, complex interactions among the different forms are yet to be fully clarified.

3. While the oxidation of iron is the most easily identified form of corrosion, this oxidation process represents only a fraction of material losses.

4. Many corrosion problems could be solved by the application of accepted corrosion prevention principles and known best practices.

5. Corrosion resistant alloys began to be developed in the last half century by metals producers and benefited from a balance of mechanical and physical properties.

6. Considerable attention has been given to the corrosion of various alloys in water, chemical solutions and in underground or concrete structures.

Task 13. Translate the following sentences into English.

1. Корозія – це мимовільне руйнування металів, спричинене хімічною або фізико-хімічною взаємодією з оточуючим середовищем.

2. У результаті взаємодії металів із зовнішнім середовищем їх поверхня вкривається тонким шаром (плівкою) різних хімічних сполук – продуктів корозії.

3. Під електрохімічною корозією мається на увазі процес взаємодії металів з електролітами у вигляді водних розчинів.

4. Вивчення процесів корозії металів і сплавів має своєю кінцевою практичною метою захист металів від корозійного руйнування під час оброблення та експлуатації.

5. Продукти корозії забруднюють навколишнє середовище і негативно впливають на життя та здоров'я людей.

6. Також корозійні процеси класифікують по вигляду корозійних руйнувань на поверхні й по механізму реакцій взаємодії металу з середовищем.
