Нанотехнологии заманчивы тем, что знакомые, давно известные материалы, переведенные в сверхминиатюрный диапазон размеров, приобретают совершенно новые, неожиданные свойства.
В лаборатории Королевского технологического института (Швеция) создана бумага, листок которой в два раза легче, чем такой же листок алюминиевой фольги, но прочнее на разрыв, чем листок стали. Причем состоит этот материал из той же целлюлозы, что обычная бумага. Из той же, да не той: специальной механической и химической обработкой шведы достигли того, что волокна целлюлозы имеют толщину 20 нанометров. Это в тысячу раз тоньше волокон традиционной бумаги. Они складываются в очень плотную сеть, отсюда и высокая прочность. Создатели нового материала предполагают, что нанобумага может служить основой для печатных плат в электронике, из нее можно будет делать сверхпрочные клеящие ленты. Прочная бумага во многих случаях способна заменять пластмассы, которые изготавливаются из невосполнимого сырья – природных углеводородов.
А в Массачусетском технологическом институте (США) создали «нанопромокашку» для сбора пролитой нефти. Правда, состоит она не из целлюлозных, а из минеральных нановолокон, каждое из которых покрыто тонким водоотталкивающим слоем. Но технология производства та же, что и у бумаги: тончайшие волокна, взвешенные в воде, осаждают на сетке и высушивают, в результате возникает тонкий слой волокнистого материала. Это «бумага» впитывает в 20 раз больше нефти, чем весит сама, причем ее можно использовать многократно – достаточно нагреть до температуры кипения впитанного углеводорода, чтобы его удалить (новый материал огнестоек). «Нанопромокашка» абсолютно не впитывает воду. Когда пролежавшую в воде два месяца промокашку извлекли, она оказалась совершенно сухой. Но если в воде, куда погружен этот материал, имеется примесь нефти или нефтепродуктов, он их всосет.
Минеральное сырье для производства «нанопромокашки» недорого, сложного оборудования не требуется. Осталось разработать метод массового производства.
