Дієслово (the Verb)
Дієслово в англійській мові має чотири форми, тобто чотири закінчення

Дієслова діляться на правильні і неправильні. Правильні дієслова – це ті, які мають у другій та третій формах закінчення –ed. Неправильні дієслова – це ті, які не мають у другій та третій формах закінчення –ed. Вони утворюють ці форми шляхом зміни кореня (див. Таблицю неправильних дієслів).
Четверта форма дієслова утворюється додаванням закінчення –ing, як до правильних, так і до неправильних дієслів, тому в таблиці неправильних дієслів вона приводиться не завжди.
Особливості вимови та написання дієслівних закінчень.
Закінчення -ed вимовляється так:
[t] - після глухих приголосних звуків: asked.
[d] – після дзвінких приголосних та голосних звуків: played, learned.
[Id] – після звуків [t], [d]: added, planted.
При додаванні суфікса –ed дотримуються таких правил орфографії:
Дієслова, що закінчуються на –e, додають лише –d: dance – danced.
Дієслова, що закінчуються на приголосну + y, опускають y і додають -ied: cry – cried.
Дієслова, що закінчуються на голосну + y, просто додають –ed: play – played.
Дієслова, що закінчуються на одну наголошену голосну між двома приголосними, подвоюють останню приголосну і додають –ed: plan – planned.
Дієслова, що закінчуються на –l, подвоюють l і додають –ed: travel – travelled.
При додаванні суфікса –ing дотримуються таких правил орфографії:
Дієслова, що закінчуються на –e, опускають –e та додають –ing: dance – dancing.
Дієслова, що закінчуються на одну наголошену голосну між двома приголосними, подвоюють останню приголосну і додають –ing: plan – planning.
Дієслова, що закінчуються на –l, подвоюють l і додають –ing: travel – travelling.
Дієслова, що закінчуються на -ie, опускають -ie та додають –y + -ing: lie - lying.
За допомогою цих чотирьох форм дієслова утворюються всі двадцять шість дієслівних часів в англійській мові: шістнадцять часів активного стану і десять часів пасивного стану.

Утворення групи часів Simple:
Смислове дієслово використовується у першій формі для утворення часів Present Simple, Future Simple та Future Simple in the Past.
(Памятаємо:
1. у третій особі однини у Present Simple до смислового дієслова у розповідному реченні додається закінчення –s;
2. у Present Simple є дієслово-виняток: ‘to be’, яке має три форми: am (у першій особі однини), is (у третій особі однини) are (у решті осіб)).
У Past Simple для утворення стверджувальних речень використовується друга форма смислового дієслова. (У запитальних та заперечних реченнях у Past Simple використовується перша форма.)
Допоміжні дієслова, що використовується для утворення групи Simple, такі:
Present Simple - do/does (дієслово do, дієвідмінюване у Present Simple);
Past Simple – did (дієслово do, дієвідмінюване у Past Simple);
Future Simple – will;
Future Simple in the Past – would;
Утворення групи часів Continuous:
Смислове дієслово використовується в четвертій формі.
Допоміжне дієслово – to be, дієвідмінюване в часах Simple.
Утворення групи часів Perfect:
Смислове дієслово використовується в третій формі.
Допоміжне дієслово – to have, дієвідмінюване в часах Simple.
Утворення групи часів Perfect Continuous:
Смислове дієслово використовується в четвертій формі.
Допоміжне дієслово – to have, дієвідмінюване в часах Perfect.
