IX. Dialogues

Read the dialogues, learn them by heart and act.

Dialogue 1.

- Excuse me. Where is the nearest bank here?

- It’s round the corner over there, opposite the supermarket.

- How can I get to the Karaganda Hotel, please?

- Keep straight on, then turn left at the first crossroads.

Dialogue 2.

  • Excuse me. Is there a photoshop near here?

  • Ah, yes, there is one at Pospelov Street.

  • How can I get there?

  • Go across the bridge, then take the third turning on the left, then the forth on the right. Pospelov Street is there, behind the church.

  • Is it far?

  • Well, it isn’t very near …

  • Can I take a bus?

  • Certainly. Take bus 59 and get off at the fifth stop.

  • Thank you.

  • That’s all right.

Dialogue 3.

  • Is there a chemist’s shop near here?

  • Ah, yes. Walk down the street, and take the second turning on the right. The chemist’s is not far from the corner, next to a pub.

Dialogue 4.

  • Can you tell me the way to the Museum, please?

  • Well, go as far as the Halyk, then walk down Erubaev Street. The Museum is there, in the middle of the street.

  • Can you tell me how I can get to the Exhibition Hall?

  • Take bus 45 and at the fifth stop change for trolley-bus No 7. Get off at the third stop.

2. Fill in the correct prepositions if necessary . You may use them not once: of, in, on, from, by, at, along, off, to, about.

Ann:Er, I say, Betty? Do you live _____ the hostel _____ our University?

Betty: Oh, no. I’m from Karaganda and live _____ Bukhar Zhyrau Avenue. But why?

Ann:Well. I wanted to call _____ a friend _____ mine who lives _____ the hostel, but I’m not sure I can find the way there. Is it a long way_____ the University?
