Communication Practice

1. Take turns with your partner(s) to say sentences about your life using the time expressions below:

Example:

I usually go to a disco on Friday night as I have no classes on Saturday.

Usually, never, now, this weekend, last year, in the future, next year, in 1999, for three weeks, since, at ten o’clock, twice a week, when, recently, for a year now

2. Draw a timeline with some important events in your life. Show it to the classmates. Answer your classmates’ questions.

3. Make a list of things that you wanted to accomplish last week. Include things that you did and things that you still haven’t done. Exchange you list with a partner and ask your partner questions about it, answer the questions about your list. Check the things that you’ve already done.

4. Think about things you had never done before you began studying at this university. Have a class discussion and write some of your findings on the board.

Writing Practice

1 Write a profile (= a short description of a person’s life and character) to introduce yourself to the other students of your subscription list (about 200 words). Start with a greeting. Write about your name, your interests and hobbies, and your plans. Mail it to mslu@yahoogroups.com .

2 Write about a relationship that is important to you. How did you meet? What were you doing when you met? Describe some events in the relationship

3 Write a journal entry explaining an achievement, e.g. learning a new skill, getting your driver’s licence, etc. In your journal entry answer some of these questions: What had you been doing before your achievement? How did you prepare for it? Had you considered giving up before you succeeded?
