С2. You have 40 minutes to do this task.

Comment on the following statement.

Some young people believe that while at school we should concentrate on studying; others think that working part-time has many advantages.

What is your opinion? Should young people start working while studying at school? Why/why not?

Write 200 – 250 words.

Use the following plan:

  • make an introduction (state the problem)

  • express your personal opinion and give reasons for it

  • give arguments for the other point of view and explain why you don’t agree with it

  • draw a conclusion

Nowadays some people think that a part-time job is good for teenagers. But others think that at school we should concentrate on studying.

In my view working part-time helps students to get better experience in their job. Second it helps children to be more independent and to earn some more pocket money. A lot of teenagers become clever and older, they start to understand our world and relationships better, because they have got a part-time job. Third students at the university have not got a lot of money, so the only way for them is a part-time job, for example there are a lot of teenagers, who work in the shops and cafes. Also girls can help to bring up children, so it is a good experience for them, because they will be mothers in future.

On the other hand people think, that students should concentrate on studying, because sometimes a part-time job takes a lot of time, so it is not good for school or college. In addition, some types of part-time jobs are very difficult and boring.

To sum up, I think that teenagers can have a part-time job, but they should not forget, that they are students.
