Mass homelessness in the U.S has become a national shame. It has been estimated that about 3.5 million Americans are homeless in a given year (find out the exact number and insert here) about 1.35 million of these individuals are innocent children. And many of the homeless people are veterans. These are the people who are likely than others to receive health and mental health care they need, which results in a life expectancy of about thirty years less than the rest of the general population. Few of these homeless adults are working, but their incomes are insufficient to meet the basic necessities. Most of the homeless children and youth do not graduate from their high school. And it is estimated that about 92 percent of the homeless women have experienced severe physical or sexual abuse at least once. And these are the people who are vulnerable to hate crimes and violence, these grim lists of statistics can be continued.

Failure of government at many levels to ensure the social and economic conditions, are solely to be blamed for Mass homelessness. Each American has the right to secure basic human needs, and that includes health care, a source of income, a safe and permanent, affordable place to live.

This issue is neither inevitable nor intractable. With that in mind, [name of candidate] has joined with an assembly of nonprofit organizations concerned with homelessness and declared five fundamental principles:

• Supplies should be affordable and must be dramatically increased.

• Health care, education must be provided to all who need them along with social services.

• The personal incomes must be sufficient so as to pay for the basic necessities of life.

• And lastly, discrimination against homeless persons must be prevented.

Together, we can end mass homelessness in the United States. We look forward to make (name of the candidate) as the leader so that we can all act on these principles.

Request to develop UN correspondence templates for distribution via the Central Management Software

1. This is in reply to your memorandum dated 10 November 1998.

2. We welcome your initiative, and will be happy to contribute. It will be our pleasure to provide you with the text-processing templates of the basic correspondence forms listed in your memorandum for you to distribute to the staff via the Central Management Software (CMS).

3. We already have a prototype template for an Interoffice Memorandum created in MS Word 97 and we are working on other forms. Our migration to MS Word from WordPerfect, our current standard text-processing package, will include the development of the final versions of the correspondence templates, along with the templates for all basic types of documents. Meanwhile, for testing, we could share with you the prototype templates, as we are developing and fine-tuning them.

New Cooperation Platform for the Ukrainian Parliament and IOM Created

A Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the International Organization for Migration and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was signed in Kyiv today.

“To better assist Ukraine in improving its migration management and reform efforts we were seeking to strengthen our cooperation with the Verkhovna Rada. While IOM has been providing inputs to migration legislation for some years now, this Memorandum marks an important milestone in our relations with the legislature as we move to the next level of cooperation,” said IOM Ukraine’s Chief of Mission Manfred Profazi at the signing ceremony.

The Memorandum aims at consolidating efforts to improve Ukrainian legislation in the fields of migration management, counter-trafficking and protecting the rights of displaced persons and national minorities. IOM and the Verkhovna Rada also intend to conduct consultations on maximizing the social, economic and cultural benefits of migration and mitigating its potential negative consequences.

IOM Ukraine already assisted in the development of over 20 legislative acts, such as the State Migration Policy Concept and the Law on Countering Trafficking in Persons, approved earlier this year.

When meeting with IOM Ukraine’s Chief of Mission in summer 2011, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Mr. Volodymyr Lytvyn stressed the importance of using the analytical and organizational capacities of IOM to assist the Parliament in harmonizing Ukraine’s migration legislation with best international standards.
