Вопросы и задания.

I. Составьте предложения, используя следующие слова и словосочетания:

of the same sort, to become more and more powerful, to damage, properties, the amount of energy, to effect, to scatter, to give out.

II. Переведите следующие однокоренные глаголы и существительные:

to lengthen - length to behave – behaviour

6. Субъектный инфинитивный оборот. Герундий. Эмфатические конструкции.

Упражнения.

I. Переведите на русский язык следующие предложения, содержащие субъектный инфинитивный оборот:

  1. The Soviet Union was known to cover one-sixth of the globe's surface.

  2. This region is expected to have extremely rich deposits of copper ore.

  3. The special commission of the Russian Academy of Sciences is expected to conduct large-scale excavations works.

  4. The delegation is reported to have visited some natural museums.

  5. It seems that the deposits of minerals in this region are inexhaustible.

  6. Copper wire is estimated to have a great tensile strength.

  7. The new system of automatic control is likely to be used in the near future.

  8. Industrial electronics is said to be a comparative newcomer to industrial plants.

  9. Vacuum tubes appear to perform such functions as: rectification, amplification, detection, modulation and others.

  10. The future is expected to bring a great many of new applications for semiconductors.

  11. The average user of electrical devices is not likely to know anything about them because they are usually small, almost hidden, and seldom require servicing.

  12. Isotopes are found to behave alike in all chemical reactions but to differ in mass.

III. Переведите на русский язык следующие предложения, содержащие эмфатические конструкции:
