We should not five a French wonanperfurme, it1 s considered far too intimate for a busineat relationship. In Germany avoid red roses (the;/ are reserved for lovers). Germans do not like ostentatious or gr.rish gifts. Arabs appreciate generous people. Never offer a gift to a wife (or wives). Do not admire an object openly, you may find it's yours.

In Latin America, never give a knife (it implies cutting off a relationship) or a handkerchief (it's associated with tears). And always take a present with you v.hen you visit a home, but do not give a gift until you have developed a personal relationship with your business contact.

Like politics, gift giving is the art,it's knowing how to bridge the

gaffes.

FORECASTS AND SAFETY.

Weather still remains one of the most important factors affecting avia¬tion safety. Pilots greatly depend or. timely weather information. The lack of up-to-date information is a potential threat to flight safety. There were many difficulties in timely receiving weather reports. Some years ago a document was issued warning pilots to use their own resources(airborne radar, pilotsreports, etc) for weather information. Pilots cannot rely on ground controllers. Besides, the controller's data are often not complete because of design of the radar and its location relative to the weather ob¬served. There is only one example but it is very illustrative. Once a DC-9 made a scheduled flight. Before departing the crew received weather reports for various airports. However, they were not advised on the latest weather conditions between airports. While passing near Roma the DC-9 encountered a severe thunderstorm. In a few minutes hail and heavy rain caused the aircraft's engine stall. The plane crashed and seventy per-LJns were killed. The investigation commission recommended to develop a system for providing controllers with real-time data on precipitation and storm intensity and for transmitting this information to pilots. A new weather display uses weather information received from weather radars.Wea¬ther information is transmitted by telephone lines to the centre and pre-sented within 2 minutes on a TV screen.
