Урок хороший, но скучный. 6. Твои волосы слишком длинные. Их нужно подстричь. 7. Этому цветку нужен полив. 8. Эту комнату нужно покрасить. Этот цвет уже не в моде. 9. Траву перед домом необходимо подстричь. 10. Те рубашки нужно погладить, но тебе не нужно делать это сейчас.
Part II. Vocabulary notes
1. FLAT (C), n. квартира
e.g. The flat is well-planned (badly-planned, cosy, comfortable, well laid out).
house – a building for people to live in and often has more than one level (storey)
cottage – a small, usually old house, especially in the country and in the USA is usually used as a holiday home
bungalow – a fairly modern house built on only one level
flat (BrE) / apartment (AmE) – a set of rooms (including a kitchen and a bathroom) within a larger building.
block of flats – многоквартирный дом e.g. They are building a block of flats.
mansion – a large, grand house
Cottage
2. FLOOR (C), n. 1. пол (комнаты и т.п.)
e.g. Look! The baby is sitting on the floor.
Note: The English for “потолок” is ceiling.
2. этаж
e.g. Our office is on the sixth floor. The third floor (=the people who live or work there) are having a Christmas party tomorrow.

e.g. There are three storeys including the ground floor in our house.

Note: когда спрашивают о количестве этажей в доме, употребляется слово “storey”.

3. COMFORTABLE, adj. удобный, уютный, комфортабельный
e.g. The room is quite comfortable to live in. This chair is very comfortable. I believe a small room is usually more comfortable.
WC to make oneself comfortable – удобно расположиться
ant. uncomfortable
cf: convenient, adj. удобный, подходящий
e.g. It’s convenient to have a room of your own. Our house is very convenient for the shops.
ant. inconvenient
e.g. It’s very inconvenient if there is no telephone in a flat.
COMFORT (U), n. уют, комфорт
e.g. to live in comfort
comforts (Pl) – удобства
e.g. The hotel offers every modern comforts. – Гостиница располагает современными удобствами.
e.g. home comforts – бытовые удобства (предметы личного потребления: одежда, пища и т.д.)
WC to enjoy comforts – пользоваться удобствами
syn. conveniences – удобства, комфорт
e.g. a house full of conveniences – дом со всеми удобствами
modern conveniences (= the latest)
e.g. This house has all the latest conveniences.
WC for the sake of convenience – для удобства
e.g. For the sake of convenience, buy this suitcase, it’s smaller.
Note: for its conveniences – за удобства
e.g. Let’s buy this house for its convenience; it’s very near the shops and there is a good transport service.
4. FAR, adv. далеко
e.g. I don’t want to go far.
“Let’s go to the park.” “How far is it?”
They (don’t) live far from here. – Они живут (не)далеко.
Petropavlovsk is far from Moscow. – Петропавловск далеко от Москвы.
