Skyler Hand – male, dob: 08 Feb 1985
No, I eat anything. Love all animals. Martial arts, shooting sports. I come from a small city but a big family. I have worked for most of my life just doing odd jobs around the town. I have done everything from lifeguard–police intern – chef at a restaurant. I am a very outgoing person who likes to have fun. I love to meet new people and learn new cultures and customs. I love traveling and have been all over Europe. I am looking forward to coming to Russia and learning as much as I can.
Beth Maher – female, dob: 22 Feb 1985
Love animals but I am allergic to cats. Shopping, traveling, hanging out with friends, volunteering, working out, spending time with my family, scrap-booking. I am originally from Joliet, IL a suburb of Chicago and went to a community college there for two years before transferring to Illinois State University. My major is criminal justice. When I'm not in school or studying I like to do many different things, including shopping and being with friends. I love to travel and take road trips, especially to the beach. I look forward to meeting new people and learning new things all the time. My immediate and extended family is the most important thing to me. I have one older brother who will be graduating this May with a degree in Political Science. My mom is a nurse and my dad is a retired police officer who now works as a fitness instructor part time. We also have a dog Sam and I absolutely adore him!
Donna Vandiver – female, dob: 18 Feb 1972
Prefer no pork. I love dogs and cats – any animals. I don’t smoke, but don’t mind others who do. I am originally from a warm climate and I like all water sports (boating on the lake). I love animals. I have a dog and cat. I do not know how to quilt, but really like the Russian quilts I have. I would like to learn more about the Russian culture. I am 35 yrs old and have been teaching at the university for 7 years. I love what I do. I am married, but don’t have any kids. I am really committed to my work. I have been to Russia once before, but spent so much worrying about my students (making sure they did not get into trouble) that I felt like I missed seeing a lot of Russia. I hope to spend more time sightseeing and talking w/ the locals than I did last time! I do a lot of research on family abuse. I am generally concerned with social justice issues. I have two brothers, 2 sisters and 2 parents (who are still married). I like my big family, but enjoy my time with my husband (w/ no kids!).
Gary m. Kurtz – male, dob: 17 Jul 1979
High protein, moderate carbohydrate diet – meat, chicken, fish, pasta, vegetables, egg whites, whole grain cereals. Cats or dogs are o.k. I’ve always been interested in soviet/Russian aviation, submarines, surface vessels, icbms, firearms, etc. If anyone in the host families has operated and/or maintained this kind of equipment, I would be extremely interested in speaking with them about their experiences. I’ve also followed soviet/Russian history and politics keenly over the years and am very interested in speaking and listening to an insider’s perspective on life and politics in the soviet union/Russia, preferably anyone who experienced both eras of Russian history. I prefer non-biased perspectives by well-versed people who enjoy open-ended debate but I understand I am their guest and I don’t mind if they are suspicious/ upset with the west/united states.
I am interested in investing in Russia sometime in the future, if someone in the host families is familiar with the current Russian business climate and worthwhile investment opportunities I would be extremely interested in speaking with them about investing in their country.
3 stage. Each group is supposed to make murom VISIT SCHEDULE with its presentation in class focusing on tour of Murom, visit to Murom Institute, showing typical places of living in Russia, treating to traditional Russian food, demonstrating the Russian language and customs, etc.
4 stage. Discuss the best points of each presentation in class. Prepare a class file of the materials which can be used for meeting English-speaking guests in real life situations.
