Suicide

Good morning, my dear friends.

Today I would like to speak to you about an extremely essential and vital problem that concerns each of us.

There is a depressive tendency in our town and it is suicide. Can you imagine that in our town last summer 14 people have committed suicide? Adults, elderly people of 80 years old who are already at death’s door, mature men… What did make them do this? We live in a small town, we breathe fresh, not polluted air, we don’t spend much time on transport, we are not pressed by traffic jams and the underground. Or maybe it is not connected with these factors, maybe it is because human relations weaken nowadays?

According to the World Health Organization, the number of people who commit suicide grows with every year. In 2011 approximately 4 000 000 people made away with themselves. Every 40 seconds somebody is trying to take one’s own life. Moreover, Ukraine occupies one of the leading positions according to the number of suicide.

There is a good example of positive thinking, introduced in the film “Overcast”. Tom Hanks, the protagonist, turned to be on the uninhabited island where he had been living for 4 years. For sure, you can imagine all the difficulties he overcame. But the loneliness was on the first place. Nevertheless he kept breathing as he had formulated one idea that saved his life: “Tomorrow the sun will rise and the new day will come and will bring me something good. It is worth living!”

But not all people are equally strong-willed. Indifference – this is the illness of our modern society. If we become a little bit kinder towards people, if we give a helping hand to a person who really needs it, we all can prevent somebody’s death and make somebody happy.

Is it possible to be healthy in the 21th century?

Nowadays our life is getting more and more tense. People live under the press of different problems, such as social, ecological, economic and others. They constantly suffer from stress, noise and dust, diseases and instability. At the first sight it is impossible to be healthy, but I’ll try to convince you that it is possible. To achieve this aim people ought to take care of their physical and mental health. There are several ways to do it.

First. The state of your body depends on how much time you spend doing sports. Everybody at least must do morning exercises every day.

At weekends try some kind of sport. But remember that the healthiest kinds of sports are swimming, running and cycling.

Second. Healthy food is also a very important factor. Overeating causes many dangerous diseases. The daily menu should include meat, fruit and vegetables, dairy products, which are rich in vitamins, fat, proteins and etc. On the other hand modern diets are very popular especially among women. Diets may be harmful, if they are used in the wrong way.

Third. To be healthy, people should get rid of their bad habits. It's necessary to stop smoking and drinking much.

Everyone should remember that cigarettes, alcohol and drugs destroy both body and brain.

In addition it is recommended to watch TV less and avoid stress.

If you follow all these recommendations you will be healthy. So it is possible.
