UNIT 1
HISTORY,
EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL LIFE
OF MATH FACULTY.
Прочитайте и переведите текст.
Before 1931 there were no institutions of higher education in Mordovia. In October 1931 an Institute of Agriculture, Mechanics and Pedagogics including Board of Physics and Technology was established in Saransk.
The main goal was to prepare teachers of Math and Physics for rural areas. In 1932 the agrotechnical pedagogical institution was transformed into Mordovia State Pedagogical Institution which included the Math and Physics Board.
In 1957 the Mordovia State University was formed on the basis of the Mordovia Pedagogical Institute and included the Faculty of Physics and Math with two mathematical chairs:
The Chair of Higher Algebra and Differential Equations
The Chair of Math and Geometry
In 1970 the Faculty of Physics and Math was divided into two new faculties : the Faculty of Math and the Faculty of Physics . Since this time the Faculty of Math began its own life. The first dean of the faculty was V.I. Sorokina (1970-1975). The next one was V.I. Grishanov (1975-1998). From 1999 till now I.I. Chuchaev has been working as a dean .
So, currently, the staff of 9 chairs are carrying out the pedagogical an mathematical education of the students from the most part of faculties and institutes of the University:
The Chair of Applied Math
The Chair of Informatics and Calculating Technology
The Chair of Math and Theoretical Mechanics
The Chair of Computer-aided Design Systems
The Chair of Differential Equations
The Chair of Math Analysis
The Chair of Algebra and Geometry
The Chair of Programming Technology
The Chair of Pedagogical Education
The faculty has its own computing laboratories , research laboratory ( on the basis of the Chair of Applied Math ), the scientific research laboratory of functional analysis and mathematical Physics , the scientific research laboratory ( on the basis of the Chair of the Differential Equations , the Chair of Math and Theoretical Mechanics , the Chair of Algebra and Geometry , the Chair of Pedagogical Education)
Maths faculty is one of the main subdivisions of our University. None of the specialties escape studying Mathematics or Informatics. It's rather prestigious to be our student!
The faculty has been training high skilled professionals in such specialties as "Mathematics" (full time) and "Applied Mathematics" (full time).
Our Faculty keeps active cooperative relations with the leading computer software designing companies like Microsoft, "1C", "Kaspersky Laboratory", Digital Security. All that provides the students with the unique opportunity of getting ready to pass the certification exams in the software products of the latter companies already during the main study course. By now more than a hundred students of our Faculty have received certificates ""1C-Proffessional". Some training in anti-virus security is being performed as a part of "Kaspersky Academy" programme. Thus, vitally important special training of professionals is going on alongside with the basic theoretical training.
Engineering facilities of the Faculty together with the open access to Internet provide our students with a brilliant opportunity of self-education. High educative level more than once helped our students to get the prize positions at the international contests in object-oriented programming. All the above mentioned permits our students to receive the most modern computing qualification, which being backed up by the fundamental mathematical training creates a very good ground for them to get prestigious working positions either in Mordovia and all over the country.
Our students are quite active and creative in non-study activities including Pedagogical Group "Matrix" which has been well known for quite long period of time already, studio-theatre "Balagan" which is quite popular among the students as well as KVN team. The Faculty sportsmen quite often reach high prize positions at the various contests. Vivid non-study activities never detain our students from getting excellent results in Mathematics and Informatics contests of any level starting from local, federal and up to those international. Our graduates are well professionally qualified and they are in constant demand in a labour market. They work either all over Russia and abroad - in Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, the USA.
The proposed specialties being quite practical are very popular among the students. They are:
1. Specialty – Mathematics.
Qualification – Mathematician.
Extra-qualification – Teacher.
2. Specialty – Applied Mathematics and Informatics.
Qualification – Mathematician. System Manager.
Bachelor's Course – Applied Mathematics and Informatics.
Qualification (degree) – Bachelor of Applied Mathematics and Informatics.
Mastership - Applied Mathematics and Informatics.
Qualification (degree) – Master of Applied Mathematics and Informatics.
3. Since 2010 a training course in "Fundamental Informatics and Information Technologies" Full-time study period – 4 years.
Qualification – Bachelor in Fundamental Informatics and Information Technologies"
Upon graduation from the Bachelor's courses "Mathematics", "Applied Mathematics and Informatics" and "Fundamental Informatics and Information Technologies" a possibility of further education is available taking a Master's courses "Applied Mathematics and Informatics" special training programmes:
Mathematical Modelling
Optimization and Optimal Control
Computers Mathematical Support and Software
Master's Course study period -2 years (full-time)
Qualification – Master in applied mathematics and informatics
