Дополнительные придаточные предложения (object clauses)

В дополнительных придаточных предложениях, когда главное предложение выражает решимость, требование, совет, предложение, договоренность, употребляется should в сочетании с Indefinite Infinitive. К таким глаголам относятся decide, demand, require, insist, advise, recommend, suggest, propose, agree, arrange, order, command. Такие придаточные предложения переводятся на русский язык придаточными предложениями, которые вводятся союзом чтобы.

e.g. The doctor insists that I should go to the South.

Вместо should возможно употребление модальных глаголов could и might.

E.g. He suggests that we could go to the cinema. Он предлагает, что мы могли бы сходить в кино.

В указанных предложениях вместо should + Infinitive возможно употребление формы Present Subjunctive (особенно в США).

e.g. The doctor insists that I go to the South.

Ex. 1. Find the forms of the Subjunctive Mood and translate the sentences into Russian.

              1. In 1934 Harold Laski suggested to Lord Chancellor Sankey that he might appoint an academic lawyer to the Bench.

              2. Those who oppose allowing the camera into court claim that certain witnesses and parties should be protected from publicity.

              3. In 1381 the rebellious Wat Tyler and his followers demanded that “old justices should be hung”.

              4. The article suggested that the Court of Appeal should apologize for the expense and trouble it had put the police.

              5. The defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment and recommended that he serve not less than 25 years in prison.

              6. In 1972 the Justice Committee wisely recommended that the Lord Chancellor should be helped in his task by an appointments committee.

              7. Basic principles of representative government suggest that the judiciary should cease to reflect the values, background, and interests of so narrow a slice of society.
