Дополнительные придаточные предложения (wish-clauses)
Нереальные условия можно выразить с помощью wish. Мы используем wish, чтобы выразить сожаление о чем-либо.
1. Сожаление в настоящем времени передается в английском придаточном предложении дополнения с помощью глагола в Past Indefinite.
e.g. I wish I knew Sue’s telephone number. (But I don’t know it). Жаль, что я не знаю номер Сью.
The bus is crowded. I wish there weren’t so many people. Автобус переполнен. Хотелось бы мне, чтобы здесь было меньше людей.
В предложениях данного типа возможно усложнение с модальными глаголами could и might.
e.g. I wish I could go to Spain. Жаль, что я не могу поехать в Испанию.
2. Past Perfect употребляется после wish, когда мы хотим сказать, что сожалеем о том, что произошло или не произошло в прошлом.
e.g. I feel sick. I wish I hadn’t eaten so much. Мне плохо. Жаль, что я съел так много.
The weather was terrible. I wish it had been warmer. Погода была ужасной. Хотелось бы мне, чтобы было теплее.
3. Для выражения недовольства, а также желаемого, но нереального действия в будущем используется форма would + infinitive (только с местоимениями 2 и 3 лица ед. и мн. числа)
e.g. I wish you would stop talking! Хотелось бы мне, чтобы вы перестали разговаривать!

I wish I (not/ have) to do my homework every day. 10. I wish I (read) more.

I wish I (not/ drink) so much coffee in the evening: I couldn’t sleep half the night. 9. I wish I (not/ lend) Nick my watch: he has broken it. 10. I wish I (be) at yesterday’s party.
Ex. 3. Rephrase the following sentences, using I wish.
e.g. It's a pity you are ill.
I wish you were not ill.
